I buy frozen biscuits in the bag so that I can cook as many or as few that i need...2, 4,6...I do believe that there are 12 biscuits in a bag. It is funny that I try to find as many short cuts as possible the older I get. I love that Jessica is so eager to learn anything new even if it is scary at first.

It is about wonderful about her touching things that she wouldn't have even recently. I have noticed that often Jess will be asked if she does or does not want to do something. Val you are an sm Mom, caregiver & teacher and you treat like an adult because she is. But sometimes as adults ve do what we have to do because things must be done. I noticed when you had here watering the plants out she said she was finished & you told her they needed a bit more & she did it. I've noticed a wonderful positive progress in Jess of course because of you all. I've heard how she will ask a question that she will know the answer to and sometimes you will make her think about and answer and she will. You all so thoughtful by giving her positive affirmations after doing that. I think Jess would benefit from more of that. Jess is bright and has been using vocabulary that you didn't know she knew. Thank you for showing us how just because someone has disabilities they still are capable of doing things. Jess is living proof. THANK YOU !!!

Good job on the cooking, Jessica. I still don't like opening the biscuits. I remember at one time, to open the can, you were to rap the seam sharply against the edge of a table or countertop. That wasn't as scary to me, but I don't know if that would work with the current ones. Guess it could be tried.
@Renita394 Жыл бұрын
After you peal the paper off, hit the roll on the edge of the counter. Jess may even like to do that. 😊. I’m sure you are aware, but they have frozen biscuits. In southern Alabama we have Mary B’s brand or store brand and both are good. She could take 2 biscuits out or how many she would want and bake right away.

hi, just found your videos! my mom taught me how to cook but it can be hard to reach or handle everything with my disability. so I got a HotLogic which is basically a mini hotplate inside an insulated bag (similiar to pizza delivery bags). my sister pre-cooks a meal and I use the HotLogic to reheat it independently instead of using a microwave. there's no buttons, only a plug, so heating times vary sometimes 20mins, sometimes 2hrs because it's a low wattage. it says you can cook from scratch but it takes like 10hrs lol. but it works very well for independence! I've haf the best try with noodles, burger, nuggets, veggies. I just suggest leaving the lid on tupperware because condensation will leak everywhere, but it's a great tool for something adaptive :)

I have seen these knives that are used by kids or persons like Jessica where they could start cutting things for themselves without cutting or hurting themselves. Maybe if introduced as a new invention for her independence she could use them to cut open her biscuits or cut them up for gravy. She could learn to cut vegetables eventually. I’m thinking that teaching Jess to hit the can on the edge of the island, to open it, will give her a little more control and make it more “fun”……I have issues with dexterity from neuropathy & trying to hold the spoon and the can and press it makes it almost impossible for me….a quick whack on the edge of the counter solves my problem and Jess may even enjoy being “naughty” by whacking something on the counter❤

Ok I’m understanding more,is her concern with spilling while cooking because she doesn’t like to spill or is it the liquid getting on her!She loves water and teases about spilling water but is really worried it seems to make a mess by spilling in the kitchen?
@baddaddy2826 Жыл бұрын
Hi Kim. That's a good question. Jess likes to tease about spilling water which she does outside but knows not to inside the house or in a car. I think she is aware that spilling an ingredient in the kitchen is not a good thing, as it makes a real mess and might ruin the meal or use up all of a necessary ingredient.

Did you have any trouble with Jess learning the oven? I ask because it's been a challenge for me. I'm a little intimidated by appliances that put out so much heat, and I have major spatial skill issues which doesn't help. I've had better luck so far with an air fryer since it's smaller and can be loaded with food to be cooked while the basket's not hot. My mom wants me to start using the little toaster oven, and I get scared of getting burned. I think we're both scared of me using the bigger oven or stove.
@Shaping_Serenity Жыл бұрын
Yes, we did have trouble with her learning the oven. She was very afraid of getting burned. We tried elbow-length grilling gloves, so that her arms would be protected if she accidentally bumped into something. That helped build her confidence, and she used them like that for years. Now, we have shorter grilling gloves that are very heat resistant that she uses. Another thing that helps is pulling the rack of the oven/toaster oven out some before she puts a pan in. That way, she's less likely to bump into something. I hope this helps! Best wishes and thank you for sharing ❤️
