Genius teaching. Every second was valuable placed, and the teaching order has been so consciously planned.

Welcome to the 2020 edition of Learning Chinese Provinces - Part Two. This revised video now incorporates Pinyin renditions of province names to aid viewers who are studying Chinese. There have also been various improvements in graphic features and some interesting new details related to provinces. The initial screen of the spinning globe includes the NASA's (public domain) "Earth: The blue marble" images as well as “Instinct” -Taiko drum - composed by Benjamin Tissot (Bensound) / through "Royalty Free Music from Bensound" (www.bensound.com), released through a Creative Commons license. I hope you enjoy this new version of the video!

The word“河”is the name of yellow river in ancient Chinese, and the word “江” is the name of yangzi river in ancient Chinese. It’s not actually the meaning of “river”. In ancient chinese, “水” means river, so “河水” means the yellow river in ancient Chinese , “江水” means yangzi river .

Although the history of Chinese and both spoken and written Chinese is far beyond the scope of the "Learning Chinese Provinces" video series, this is an interesting topic. Thank you for your notes on the historical evolution of the names of rivers and the Chinese words for "river". For any viewers who are interested in learning more about the development of written Chinese, I would encourage you to take a peek at a "just released" video by my good friend "Jim" (徐志闲) who has started on some videos on this topic. The first of his videos on this can be found here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5i0qZikidibhM0 (And, due to the wide interest in the topic of the written Chinese language, many other interesting videos on the subject can be found on the Internet, including some on KZbin. Although the creation of written Chinese is attributed to the mythical "Fuxi" dating back five thousand years, the best examples of early written Chinese are found on the well known "oracle bones" as well as ceremonial bronze vessels from the Shang Dynasty)

Thank you very much! I'm Russian, it's a pity that the video is not in Russian. My husband knows English well and studied Chinese. He helps me understand. These videos for me practice in two languages. Now I even recognize hieroglyphs. I need to know the geography of China for my job. The Chinese write many scientific articles.

Thank you for your comments. It is good that you are dedicated enough to work through the English although it is not your home-language. In addition to English, there are versions of these videos in Spanish, French, and Italian. (I collaborated with native speakers of those three languages). Those collaborators did an excellent job and I am very thankful. Unfortunately (although the French and Italian ones are very good) it is only the English and Spanish versions that get a large number of viewers. I did not initially realize it, but KZbin has auto-generated English subtitles that you can turn on when you view the English versions. That might help you in the same way many use subtitles when they use movies to learn other languages. Thanks again! have a great day!

@@Pere-X Thanks for the subtitle tip. Indeed, it helps. The best way to understand English is when it is spoken by Russians with our pronunciation. :) But you speak understandably! Russian is still spoken by almost all former USSR countries. If you find a Russian native speaker who will do the voice acting in Russian, I think there will be many views too. I will then recommend these videos to my friends. I tried to show my colleague, she knows English better than me, but she was too lazy to understand someone else's language. When we work, we often have to check the name of a province and other geographic object of China on the Internet. I want to know them. In addition, we have Russian transcription of all names in Cyrillic. And this is an additional difficulty. We use the Palladium transcription system. I bought a large map of China, there are only English and Chinese. I sign the names myself in Cyrillic, and I write tips from your videos in the margins. When I'm finished, I'll hang it over my computer.

Thanks for the suggestion. In spite of the fact that there are many Russian immigrants in my city, I only know one speaker of Russian. Ironically, it is the woman (Irina) who was mentioned in the credits as the person who first suggested I make the videos. I haven't been in contact with her for several years, but I will see if I can reach her and ask if she is interested. I have a document that outlines the steps needed for creating versions in other languages. It is a lot of work (translation, making recordings, adapting screen text and images), so a person needs to have a strong interest to be willing to invest the time. If you know someone who might have this level of energy, I can be contacted at the email address at the web site mentioned at the very beginning and the very end of the videos. Right now I am working on some new videos, including a new set that introduces the names of the capitals of the provinces. Have a good day!

Not sure if you know this tidbit but Oxford in Chinese is translated similar to Tianjin , Oxford being Niujin. Niu means ox.

Very interesting! So often we don't think about the etymology (word origin) of place-names in our own language! In English a "ford" is a place where the water is shallow enough that you can cross without a bridge or boat, and so: [Oxford was first settled by the Anglo-Saxons and was initially known as Oxnaford, meaning "ford of the oxen"] (from Wikipedia) Thank you for sharing that information!
