I personally prefere to learn a foreign language without reaching out to my native language. It's the only way to not only know the meaning of different linguistic units in L2 but also to understand or even feel them. I did my studies in a foreign language and by making notes and revising in the target language I made so much more progress than my peers who would translate everything back and forth. Translation might be a good way to test whether you can or cannot say something in a foreign language, but it should not be overused when you aren't fluent yet.

Agreed! We are big proponents of not translating back and forth. It makes focus and grasping the target language easier. We have met several people working to translate right away (due to circumstances or work), so we presented both methods in this video 👍

Thanks for this video! I’m from Chile and the next year I’m starting my studies of translator in the university, so it’s very useful for me. Thanks both of you! 🤗

After 5 years of learning English, I completely abandoned the bilingual dictionary.

Good! The only reason you would need it is if you were translating something you are not sure about literally. As soon as you can go without, do it!

In my opinion, this video is useful for improving one's English listening skills, and that's all. Actually, in no time, we might not need any translation because AI is outperforming us

Does AI do a good job in your native language? We have found that AI gives a lot of generic, flat language. It’s got a long way to go before it creates depth of meaning, interesting word choices, or much character.
