Loving kindness for a black person who likes indie rock, you will not be surrounded by gangster stereotypes, but your inner voice will be able to be heard. Loving kindness, I was a black kid who loved meditation, my parents were transcendent of many of the traps that african american culture at large is known to fall into, I was raised in the suburbs, there were black people, white people, latinos and Asians. I was a nerd as a kid. And as soon as I began listening to music my parents asked my older siblings (at that time in college, I was the youngest still in Middle school) for music with positive lyrics rather than violence or ignorance, to which my siblings provided such underground classics as Talib Kweli, The Roots, Common, all known for high quality non mainstream hip-hop. I loved it and enjoyed it more than mainstream. Later I got into rock bands like Radiohead, Pavement, Fugazi, Acid Mothers Temple... I realized I love rock music and especially indie rock, I love being girly, and I dislike posturing as someone macho, at the same time, ironically, I felt no connection to the gay community, who didn't have the same vision as to what 'girliness' was. As a result of my musical taste, I befriended a lot of hipster kids. Their philosophy I truly empathized with, and we formed bands played music, discovered weed together and had many memories. During this period I also fell in love with beatnik poetry such as kerouac.... I loved to write rambling flowing prose. and to practice zazen, that Kerouac talked about in his classics Dharma Bums and On the Road. I was very passionate and took an interest in analysis, I saw the government and the outside world as reflection of the inner psyche, not a disownable 'other' & sought change by coming to peace with the true self rather than chasing exterior which never lead to the root of things. I had many mystical experience in those times confirming this philosophy. I meditated 2 hours a day. I felt I transcended culture that felt there was something to defend or to hide, I simply let myself be free, and let the tides of life carry me. To me this is what black mainstream culture or even traditional african revivals lack. They are all defensive, focused on past and unable to embrace the now. To me its beautiful to see a black person doing something unique and outside of the expected cultural umbrella. To be honest, the mainstream black culture is not attractive to me and I think its awesome to branch into others with a sense of innovation and originality. Individuality not just heritage.

Looking back, I realize now that as a teenager, the feng shui in the bedroom I shared with a sibling was all wrong. At least, it was for me (not so much for my sibling, since we had different beds in different locations of the room). With me, I had a twin bed that had no headboard at all. There was a big window in the room that had blinds, and my bed was directly alongside or right under this window. (The only saving grace about this is that my head was not the part directly under the window, since the side was the part of the bed that was against the wall under the window.) So one side of the bed was against the wall and the other side of the bed had open space, but there was no nightstand or any table next to the bed. There was open area or space above my head and below my feet, and since there was no headboard on the bed, there was no "support." Also, there was a full-length mirror nearby. I had a very miserable childhood. Although I know of other factors that contributed to it, perhaps bad feng shui in bedroom also contributed, or at least didn't help.

What about multiple people who live in a house? Everyone might not like the same things in the home. How do you remedy this. If you live in a very old house how does that affect things?
