Hey Amit. Do you have any thoughts/decisions on how to rectify your brake problem? On a fully loaded bike when descending a long/steep distance the brake components sometimes overheat causing brake fade. Pouring water onto a hot disc may cause discs to warp/buckle. The only solution I can think of would be for you to purchase larger size F + R discs. To use larger size discs you would have to purchase and install brake caliper adapters. Larger size discs will have more "stopping power" compared to smaller discs and therefore will not need to be used as long and hard as smaller discs. When brakes are used less they of course generate less heat. There is alot of useful and informative information on KZbin and google about upgrading/oversizing bicycle disc brakes. For a temporary solution now you could try using sandpaper. When brake discs and brake pads overheat they often "glaze over" which severely effects the brake performance. Try pressing sandpaper/emery cloth on both sides of the discs while at the same spinning the wheel. This might help to improve and provide more "friction" if the disc surfaces are glazed. Also the brake pads can be removed and rubbed in a circular motion on a flat piece of sandpaper/emery cloth. Hope this helps.

Good video! Disc brakes have problems while descending, be it a bicycle, motorcycle, car or even a train, especially when there is continuous down gradient. Best wishes 🎉

The real steep descent starts after crossing Lamahatta. Even with car it feels you are descending so steep, so I can understand the challenge you had faced.. But journey seems memorable.

Yeah, it was a really tough descent. Glad you understand how challenging it was. Yeah, so this is something which I will always remember in my life time. It was really painful, specially working on that part with a bicycle. My legs were aching for next whole week.

Sorry to say but I've seen many videos on KZbin where people get into long cycling trips without having knowledge how to maintaining their bike which is really essential, basic KZbin how to guides are also helpful, know your bike, how and when to change chain, adjust derailleurs, adjust break tension, change brakepad, carry additional brakepads. At the end of day you guys suffer because of your own carelessness, sorry to say but that's what i think, and yes i haven't done all india trip, but did enough to know what essentials i need in such trips. Wish you a safe journey ahead.

Hey, thanks for writing. I took a little longer to reply to your comment because I wanted to take some time to think about it. From what I understand, you suggested that I should get some basic knowledge about maintaining bicycles, even from some KZbin videos, and you feel that I don't know much despite doing an all-India trip. If I am understanding your message correctly, here's my response: I haven't shared much about the knowledge and experience I carry with me in this video because it wasn't the topic. So, to clarify: 1. I am a cyclist and have played for my state. 2. I have spent my entire life with bicycles. 3. I have undergone detailed training in repairing and servicing bicycles at a shop for four days, without relying on KZbin videos.So, knowledge is not the gap, and I fixed most of my problems. In this video, it was an exceptional case of losing altitude of 6000 feet in 26 km. Did you see that signboard where it was advised to ride all vehicles in 1st gear? That's because it was a very steep downhill route. If you check the next video, I got a chance to speak to locals who told me about the kind of road it is and the accidents that have happened there. See the next video for more details.I hope this clarifies that I am equipped with the essentials I need for such trips. By the way, where are you from? Are you a cyclist? I'm asking because I can sense the concern from one cyclist to another. Lots of love to you, brother.

@WorldBudgetWheels hi, yes I'm a cyclist(more of a party paced one rather that competitive), i have climbed up and came down from this road many times as i lived in Siliguri for 4 years for college studies. Back then i used a rim brake mtb on these road but yes there's certain technique to get down a steep decent. But i never carried a load greater than 7kg in total, that's my no1 rule. But nowadays i use much expensive custom mtb with bigger rotors and hydraulic brake, metallic brake pad, and with it it's no problem coming down that decent but yes i do notice if breaks starts to fade i get down and give the rotors time to cooldown. As per your video i noticed some things like your cable is loose, rotors are worn out, pads are too(i suppose), & carring too much weight. with that condition i would personally not recommend to ride even on planes. I think you should give priority on your safety first and make changes on those components, and yes you should definitely change your helmet as you already crashed with it, even there's no visible damage it's structural integrity is compromised internally. I'm currently in my hometown near Kolkata. I hope you'll get everything sorted and there's yt video for every problem solution, even on how to get down from a steep hill. All the best.

Hi Amit, Been enjoying your videos. I have backpacked and cycled in other parts of India but not in the Himalayan area where you are now. Good to see you're usually happy and enthusiastic even when encountering challenges. What's your route going towards Australia? I'll soon be starting a Singapore - UK bike ride. Maybe we'll cross paths. Ride safe and may the winds be with you.

@WorldBudgetWheels
@WorldBudgetWheels Ай бұрын
I am working on another video. Currently, it is on a script stage where I will be comparing West Bengal with other states of India and that will be from the perspective of Cyclist. So let’s hope it will be out soon. Even I found it that in last 21 days of Cycling here in West Bengal, the end come very early. about coming back, I’m not sure because I’m going ahead and it’s a long journey. So now I am preparing for my ride on the mountains of Sikkim for me. It is always exciting to go to a new state with a new perspective of learning and knowing that better and sharing it with all of you, so that you can also grow and learn with me so excited right now. I hope you always like Sikkim as well.
