Learning Hail Caesar II - Early Imperial Romans v Dacians again.

This is my second learning game of the Hail Caesar ruleset. Things are becoming clearer and I am getting faster, so it is working. I really find playing solo and checking the book when I am stuck works, it's the best way to learn in my opinion.
In this game I have added some cavalry on both sides. This was a very close game, it really could have gone the other way.

Thanks, some good ground covered,- these small engagements are interesting in their own right and would make a perfect mid-week game just to test rules, refresh the rules in your mind before a big game or simply have a knock-about.

I really appreciate you making these videos. Have painted up loads of Britons and Romans and have been wanting to get into Hail Caesar and your videos are the best I have found for an introduction to the rules. I was hoping the Dacians would get to taste victory this time, but alas, it was not meant to be!

Always thought Dacians was said phonetically "day-shuns". Good instruction of simple game. Me and my friends are building armies for Hail Caesar, me Gaul, them Roman Republic and Greece. Hoping to build 2-3 divisions, might have Dacians as an allied division.

They are a good set of rules, I aim to expand my Persians to have enough units to play HC, when I have finished my current project. Thanks for the comments.

Are your Armies Victrix Minis? Where did you find your scorpion? Great video as usual. I’m very tempted to buy this Rulebook!!!

I have had them for years and I think the Romans are mostly very old metal Foundry, with a few Warlord Games plastics. My Dacians are also quite old but you may be right in that they may well be Victrix. I should know really, but I forgot. :)

Hello, I don't understand why you do a break test for a 6 from range, the rule say either 2 ranged 6's or a 6 that needed better than a 6 to hit. Can you clarify your view ? (I'm beginner)

Hi, sorry about the delay in replying. As I understand it, if you are only hitting on 6's, then you need two 6's to force a break test. If you need less than 6 to hit, so for example 5's and 6's, you only need one 6. See page 124. I think I have read it right. :)

Can the dacians automatically charge at 12 inches

Hi, sorry about the delay in replying. If you mean can they move on initiative to charge? They can do but as an initiative move is only one move the target need to be at 6" range. At 12" you are within range to charge but must move twice to reach the target, so you must make an order to do so. That is how I understand it works. So, as the Dacians were within 6" they were allowed to charge on initiative. :)
