Learning how the JVC GR-C7U works

This model of camcorder was manufactured by the Victor Company of Japan, LTD, (JVC). According to the date on the paperwork that came in the box, the year of manufacture was 1986. Serial No. 15180105.

Just got this. Any tips for how the recording counter works? How do i make sure i dont record over what i just recorded

For me, if I've finished shooting a scene that I know I'll want to keep, but want to preview before continuing, I note the meter reading marking the end of the shot before rewinding. Also, if you eject the tape cassette, I belive the meter resets. I use a logbook for noting scene sequences, including the content/subject matter of each scene, (along with the meter numbers) so that I don't have to unnessarily rewind/fast forward. On the note of rewinding, you might want to purchase a seperate rewinder so you don't wear out the rewind feature on the camcorder itself. Best wishes!

Yes, here's one...when working in the full-auto "Rehearsal" mode, (Press MONITOR button, then FULL AUTO button - Page 17 in the user manual), you may notice that the auto focus moves quite gradually. It does "get there" but sometimes takes up to 20 seconds. For example, I pointed the camera from an infinity distance to a distance of three meters. I watched the focus ring move from infinity to the five meter mark, then it seemed to pause...but I waited to see what happened, and sure enough, it quivered a bit, then landed on the correct three meter point on the focus ring. The autofocus feature is very important as you will probably be pointing the camera at subjects that are located at varying distances, especially when shooting outside. Good luck with the camera...its a technological wonder considering the era it was released. Also, it's very helpful to have the owner's manual, and it takes JVC VHS-C tapes...
