I saw rally and RX-7 in the title. Rob, you need a first-gen RX-7 now. Not only did they rally in Group 3 and Group B, but a privateer built an AWD first-gen for rally back in the 1980’s. Complete the fleet, let’s see an FB! 😂

As someone in ICeland, I must say: Driving without 100% traction in snow or gravel teaches you what your car is capable of, and where the limits are. As well as knowing how to respond to it quicker should you lose traction.

Yes it does, first Rally training I had was in a Sim running the stages thru Sweden..... Running 100+ across snow and ice you learn really quick.... and then the gravel stages seem almost tame by comparison.

Wow, DirtFish is so much fun. This video brings back very fond memories of Feb/Mar 2023 when my wife and I attended a 3-day AWD class there. We learned so much, and the skills translated to road racing, too. As Nate said, it's about comfort level when things get a little crazy or the unexpected happens. We also stayed at the Salish Lodge and Spa (hotel to the left of the waterfall), and it was so nice. Final note, we even got to drive the Ken Block tribute AWD Subrau WRX STI on our final day when the DirtFish photographer was taking the hero shots of the class on course.

When driving on gravel the most important steering system is your engine and differential! Using your engine and the fact that the differential always puts the power to the outside wheel pushes you around the corner and sometimes you have counter steer to get around the corner. So it’s important to use your gas petal when driving on gravel. Pikes peak goes ahead regardless of the weather so it is important to learn to drive in less than ideal conditions!

Rob, good to see you lovin the dirt. In my opinion the AWD RX7 is so bespoke and unique to trash off-road, just because it drives all 4 wheels like a rally car. Get a turbo Mazda 323 Famila GT-X 4WD? Maybe something that is already equipped for rally from Japan? They sell for very cheap because they can't be used for commuting or any kind of road use so they are only selling to people that want the cars for a similar race only purpose 👍 Then when you've got your factory Mazda 4WD vehicle you can convert it to a fullybuilt semi PP 13B REW motor. Almost factory rotary swap all wheel drive. Then you have the greatest potential t for "off the shelf" ready to go after market parts, performance parts or even factory parts from wreckers or new? That way when you break it you don't cry yourself to sleep 😫 It could be as simple as going back to the pits, swap out the broken bit then go take it for another thrash! alternative to that and highly likely with the 4 rotar if you break anything you will probablyneed to pack everything up and take it back to the workshop because there is no "off the shelf" part in existence with the 4 rotar AWD RX7. Rather than your viewers (and yourself) just curled up on the ground wincing, cringing, crying and begging for you to stop at horrendous sounds all the rocks flicking up and just destroying prized creation. Getting a 323 from Japan there won't be any compliance and very low import duties because the car is never intended to be registered for road use? You could go with a GTiR pulsar as well, but keeping it in the family and

A rotary swapped Subaru would be a damn good rally car I think. Two rotor should fit well. 1st gen Imprezas are well proven and pretty cheap. I personally race a GL Hatch and it's incredibly light, an NA rotary could make one quick, a turbo rotary would be insane. But the AWD trans doesn't fit nicely in those. The 3rd gen L series like the Loyale, XT, and RX are also reasonably light and will fit a 5 or 6 speed AWD trans bolt-in.
