My brother bought his new CTR but can't drive it so I had to teach him 😂Today I took my best shot at teaching him to drive stick in his brand new 2021 Civic Type R! DM me on IG! @jaelnava_ /

I just picked up a white CTR last week and it's also my first manual! I was so stressed and full of anxiety that I didn't want to go anywhere at first. But a week later, I'm focusing more on smooth shifting instead of stalling. He'll be there in no time!!

Haha love it. Same here with me took me about 1.5 days to learn

Your bro has major balls to buy a Type R without knowing how to drive a stick beforehand 😂 mad respect and hope he’s enjoying it now that he’s got some seat time

Actually the 10th Gen Type R's Manual Transmission is so good and user friendly that it's well known to be a good beginner car to learn stick.

Fun fact the first manual car I drove was a civic type r I drove it really well really easy felt like a champ …. Was so confident I test drove a gt350 the same day … realized the civic type r was so good and easy to drive and friendly and forgiving it is when I stalled the gt350 3 times in counting …

I had the same problem maintaining revs when I first learned manual. You're doing everything at the same time and it's so foreign coming from auto. It's so worth it though, he's gonna have a blast when he can start driving it hard.

Haha I agree, everyone goes though that but that’s definitely the goal! hope he likes driving as much as I do 🤝

Good job! My friend taught me and what really helped was instead of slow off clutch and holding gas he said try tapping gas to keep revs up. There again i was learning in a light flywheel lol
@jaelnava_3 жыл бұрын
that sounds hard hahah but light fly wheels can be fun
@bobbyrios2k2233 жыл бұрын
@@jaelnava_ yeah, it was on a 91 integra. I love light flywheels! My personal 95 integra i had a 7.5 lb flywheel when i had to change the clutch lol. When that time comes around on the s2k im going with a lighter one.. maybe not that light though

so if i tap the gas instead of letting up slowly, thats another easy way of getting into gear ??

I would actually like to say the 10th gen Type R in comfort mode is the best car to learn stick. Its Manual Transmission system is so good and user friendly. Obviously wouldn't want to start in Sport or R modes which it did look like you were driving in which is why switching gears felt that way. In comfort mode it's cake.

Just bought my CTR last Saturday. I had a good support group as well. 3 days later I’m driving like a champ. Traffic and freeways and all. Hills are still scary.

I would love to have a Type R someday. I find them so nice and they look so much fun to drive. Tell your brother I said congrats on the car. Hope he's loving it. I have an Si Coupe right now but for my next car, I want a Type R. They look so nice. I love my Si and it's fun to drive but I think the Type R would be even better. He did an awesome job for his first time. I learned back in 2017 on a Subaru Impreza and let's just say, I stalled the car countless times, almost crashed it and jerked the car so much between shifts. I managed to let off the clutch once while taking off and the car just kept jerking constantly. I got better though and I eventually drove the car almost daily as my dad and stepmom got a Subaru WRX that was a standard too so I didn't have an automatic to drive anymore. They ended up selling both cars for two automatic vehicles a couple years later though and I got my own car not long after and their vehicles we're automatic and mine was too and I missed the standard so much. I traded my old car in for a 2018 LX Coupe that was a standard and I got the Si now. I don't miss having an automatic one bit. He will love his car once he gets the hang of it. Standard is way more fun than automatic I find.

@@Pasadena97- good place to start for sure, even triptonic transmissions that come on most automatics these days are a really good place to learn kinda how transmissions work from a gear-selection standpoint and what to do at each gear witout having to worry about manipulating pedals

@@jaelnava_ the Type R has throttle position on the dash (look at the bottom left inside the tach). I taught my cousin and her husband in his Type R the other week and having that was an easy demonstration that you don't have to mash it to get the timing down. 5% throttle is all you need to get it moving (as a beginner). probably the fastest lesson I've ever done.

Recently purchased a 24 Civic Touring Hatchback with 6 speed manual, and have had a lot of anxiety. No problem with 1st, 2nd , 3rd & 4th, but struggling going from 5th to 6th, or downshifting from 5th to 4th, afraid I will go into 2nd instead of 4th……

@@jaelnava_ had 9 recalls so fuel pump, stock break discs, gearbox 2nd gear, turbo issue, cosmetic issues like trim falling off due to being left in hot weather, reverse camera lag and quality issues, had rear window lifting off car which started with hazing below the rear read H logo and few other minor issues BUT all were fixed by honda and some did not affect me directly but honda issued re-call and fixed/replaced the issues but some like break discs and gear box were not something they could simply fix at honda but hey no car is perfect.

@@sounddiaryess good input! hoping some of those issues don't arise in my brothers car since it's the last model year for the FK8 generation, the same logic pushed me to buy my 2007 AP2 which is part of the 06+ generation of cars which the most sorted - fingers crossed!

its SUPER easy to drive, I was surprised actually probably because its a brand new car and modern tech you know so it's easy in that sense but downshifts and stuff were really weird so that feature can really spoil you if you don't turn that function off but for normal driving it's should be pretty good platform to learn on if you pick it up quickly - last consideration would be burning up a clutch on this car would be a little more expensive than usual
