im not sure how these work. but, you were on the right track with the schematics. Next time use the schematics to find paths from the pads to chips to avoid scratching at the board.

Good idea. I'll have to try that. I only thought about checking continuity from one via to the next in the trace. I did check continuity from the rom to the cartridge pins but maybe there was something I missed. I know the board is in terrible shape. A lot of the via holes had corrosion and build up in them from some sort of substance which is why I wanted to Transplant the rom over to a new game board. Maybe I'll have to throw another $7 at this game for the sake of scientific progress :(

Great video learned lots. What are your thoughts on using a fiberglass pen on cart pins? I've used one in the past as a last resort after the isopropyl alcohol clean and an eraser doesn't work.

Glad to hear it. I've learned a lot from making these videos :). Good question: Do the cartridge pins look corroded? From what I gather, Fiberglass can be OK on the cartridge pins. I don't like fiberglass because of the itchy dust. I also like using the weiman glass stove top cleaner (some people say it's bad, some people say its okay). I have heard about others using a vinegar bath on the pins (I have not done that) Always clean the pins thoroughly with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol after vinegar treatment to remove any remaining vinegar residue if you try that. Good luck on your repairs!
