Thanks for the great video! I am a Starboard SUP rider, just starting my foil journey. I have the 5’10 Take Off and Freewing Go wings. My Starboard foils arrive next week- can’t wait!

Thank you! Sounds great. You have a good setup! What front/stab have you on the way? What’s the conditions where you ride?

Nuevo suscriptor! Un saludo desde Málaga.

Thanks Dan! Great stuff in the mail soon I hear. You’re going to love that setup. Riding waves, and get a super glide. Will blow you away, just like it happened to me when I started riding the 1050 after going on low and medium foils for a year and a half. Remember to get speed before you angle up the foil as these higher aspect foils need speed to give sustain. Well, you know that already :) Have funand come back and let me know how the first rides were.

I started wing foiling with Starboard Ocean Surf 2400 in September 2021 and I agree with you that it probably was a wise choice for me because the area I am wing foiling now has very weak wind (7--10 knots) and is often gusty. Once I was able to start foiling with ease in light wind, I tried a few different 2000 cm2 wing foils in various conditions and the selection of front foils really depend on what you want and your area. By the way, my level of wing foiling is that I can jibe no problem, but I am still working on my tacking. Wing foiling is getting quite popular in the past few month here and the following is my obseravtion. 1. For the absolute beginners, the bigger the better for both foil wings and the board especially if you do not have water sport background (e.g. windsurfing, kitesurfing, surfing, etc) 2. For board volume, they say, you need to have 30-40 liter more than your kg weight (e.g. if you weigh 75 kg, start with 105-115 liter board), but I would go even bigger to 40-60 more liter volume. It will just make your life easier. A) I think the shape of the board is as important as the volume of the board. For beginners,, I think a fat board (more width) seems easier than a skinny board (less width) with the same volume. (Strangely, I prefer a skinny board now ...) B) I can easily ride 90 liter board (Cabrinha Code 88 or Starboard 90 liter) if the wind is strong enough.. However, since the wind is so weak and gusty in my area, my main board here is Reedin Feather board 112 liter. 3. The shape of foil wings depend more on your area. I wing foil in light wind and flat water (i.e. river) condition. I recently tried Starboard S type 2000 and it was harder(?) than my PNG 1150 with 1778 cm2 area. In other words, in flat water condition where riding a wave is not an option, a mid to high aspect ratio wing seems better. 4. Starting with a short mast (< 72 cm) seems so much easier in the beginning 5. Starting with a long fuselage (> 70 cm) seems so much easier in the beginning

Smoothrider, you are spot on! ;-) This way more riders would enter the sport and become good riders as they get good results quick. The platform (board) in the beginning needs to be stable so you can focus on learning to get speed and direction with the wing. Not to have to do both at the same time. Too many start out with small stuff and just can't... Please share your knowledge with the people where you live so they start the right way. Make a Facebook group for locals and like-minded that also rides in Vietnam (did I remember correctly?) So they can get into the sport the best way. No one would learn to ride a bike on a 22 geared road bike, right? BUt thats what's happeining in the wing foil world. I also agree that a 1150 can be better than a 2000. It depends more on the shape of the foil than the area. The high aspect foils that are coming strong this year takes the foil to another level. When you have a decent level lik you have, you dont need 2000cm2 foils any more. In 12 knots and up you are ok with a 1000-1100cm2 foil if they are high aspect ones. As you have seen in the video, my first impressions of the 1099 from Axis, I can only say WOW! what a foil. Keep riding and check back in regularly. Stay safe!

@@wingfoil_mallorca haha..I am residing in Seoul, Korea...I wing foil in Han River, Seoul a lot although I travel to different places. My current main foil is PNG 1150 with 500 cm2 FR & 460 cm2 FP rear foil wings. I am planning to get HPS 1050 and 400 cm2 rear wing once I can tack well enough 😋

Ah, Korea was it. LOL. You’ve got good stuff for light wind riding. The 1050 will blow you away. It’s such a BIG difference between the 1150 and the 1050. It’s unbelievable. You will have a great time. And next year, maybe you go A.R.T. 😜

Hi Frederic, super stuff! Just bought my first foil board and wing. And hope for some wind tomorrow. I will arrive at Mallorca the 22. Of July at Can Picafort. Can you recommend a good place to rent wing foil gear and take lessons in that region? Or should i contact El Niño? Thanks for all your motivating and good karma.
@wingfoil_mallorca2 жыл бұрын
Hey Peter, thank you! 😃 Coming to Mallorca, that sounds great. Can Picanfort is on the noth shore so I'd say you go to the bay of Pollenca to rent equipment. Try Pura vida Mallorca. Kite & Yoga and Mallorc kiteboarding. Check with them in advance if they have equipment available. I'm not sure what and how much they have fpr rent. Say hello from me! EL Niño is another alternative, but it's quite a drive. Try north shore first! Im happy you like my videos! Let me know how it went with the rental. Stay safe!
