Hi, definitely take the bigger as you never know what conditions there will be. I brought 4 and 4,5 and not my 5,5. That was a mistake. Would have wanted the 5,5 on several sessions. So, yes. If you can make space. Take it with you! Have fun and stay safe!

Salve Fredric.

I learned and nearly always Wingfoil in Offshore winds. I prefer the flat water. Although I am nearly always alone in the sea... I only go into the water when the wind is in a slight angle so I can cut upwind to shore. Recently upgraded my gear to a 75 liter board at 73kg, with 5m wing and 1280 Phantom Fone Foil. Still learning to jibe so I am in the water A LOT ;-)

Such a great video. May I ask you a question? Recently I have seen some inflatable windsruf sails that you can use in any SUP board. I am about to buy one of them. What is your opinion about them? I did windsurf 30 years ago and I want to use my SUP board to practice another sport when is windy. My plan was to buy one of these get used of the Wind and then buy a Wing one. Thank you in advance.

Hi Mikel, I’d advise you to take some classes around where you live and then go directly to buying a wing and get going. I cannot see any advantages going the route around an inflatable windsurf sail. It is not that difficult to get started navigating with the wing on a stable board. Good luck!

Nice presentation of what looks to become a standard of innovation. The sport is evolving and it is normal to see the gear adapting to what we want and where we will end up. I think we are seeing wing foiling and for me the wing itself becoming an aid to learning down winding and that must be forgotten once riding the swell. To be continued…

I am 77 years old, a lifelong hang glider pilot, good at sup, and still strong enough to do dinghy sailing twice a week in Cyprus. I am 178 cm tall and weigh 65 kilos. I sail in winds of 8 to 18 knots. What size gear for easy learning….cheers
@wingfoil_mallorca
@wingfoil_mallorca 2 ай бұрын
Hi Michael, I don’t know what conditions you have. But normally you want big gear. For several reasons. You want a big board to be stable on the water so you can learn how to manoeuvre a SUP board or a large foil board with the wing when you start on water. Probably about 30-40l above your weight. If you go too small you won’t get anywhere, it will be too hard. Wing, you want 5m2 or maybe even a 6m2. If you live in a place with good strong winds 15 knots and up, you may go with a smaller wing than 6m2. The large material compensates for the lack of skills in the beginning. Foil, a big one here as well. 2400-2500cm2. If you start big you can quicker get the hang of it and then when you feel like the gear is too big you sell it and get a little smaller gear. So you will step down several steps in size of material until you reach a point where you have material you can master but yet small enough to be fun and easy to ride. And hours and hours. The more times per week you can do it the faster you learn. The shortcut is the big gear. The rest is to get your brain to understand how things work in this fantastic fun sport. If I could…you can! 💪💪

Just watched your first tip and it never occurred to me to practice all the moves on the beach first. When I think back to 20 years ago when i first learned to kitesurf, I did practice with the kite on the beach and in fields before I went on the water. I have only had a few sessions with my wing and that has only been on the sea on my SUP, so I will now be out in the local park and on the beach on windy days getting some handling practice. Thanks for the tip(s).

Great video, thanks! My first board is a 5"10 (110 liter) F one rocket, no footstraps. Standing and balancing was quite easy because I used to windsurf when I was a kid (40 years ago) but the biggest frustration was that I could never get this setup on foil... I was using a 85cm mast and 1280 F one phantom foil... After a lot of months on the ocean surfing back and forth, someone borrowed me a F one gravity 1800 foil, and like magic, I was flying, and my body imediately addapted to that new balance. So whatever you do, start out with a huge foil and then downsize when you get the hang of it!

Hi, yes, your background will definitely be an advantage. However start a few sessions borrowing a big board so you float well to get a grip on handling the wing and how to jibe, go upwind and so on. If you directly start with smaller gear it will take a lot getting used to initially. Well, it depends if you ride in a place with good, strong wind or not is what I mean.

I'm learning the wing on land right now. One thing I'm noticing is I can only keep it controllable almost directly nose into the wind. As soon as I try to angle the wing just 10 degrees or so off center the wind grabs it too hard and pulls a wingtip down into the ground. (6m wing for our 10mph MAX summer winds, and i'm 5'8") I know I'm trying to sail across the wind, at something approaching 45 degrees to the wind. I grasp that some of that is using your body to twist through your legs to point the board where you want to go. But is the wing always pointing directly upwind? I've been e foiling 2 summers and now ready to learn to wing in our light wind conditions. (inland lake). SUP first to learn the wing and then Gong Cruzader inflatable to foil. :)
@wingfoil_mallorca
@wingfoil_mallorca 6 ай бұрын
I hear you and this is a part you have to get through by investing more hours and eventually you will figure it out. It is true that the hips and legs control the direction of the board and you use the wing to get more or less “gas” in your rides.

Nice review. Axis keeps inventing new shapes, I wish I had access to all their new suff just to compare. I have 2 Axis front wings 970 and 1150. Both are from the red series, and feel like super outdated. It looks like there is no reason to start from the Red series at all nowadays. 1201 might be good for a new learner. I learned how to foil straight and gybe in 10-20kt. But 20kt is not really fun on my setup. It feels overpowered even with 40m wing. So I'm upgrading to the Black series for 15-25kt wind days. I'm considering ART 999 paired with 360/45 skinny and Crazyshort Advance fuselage. This is going to be a huge change for me, since each part of the setup is upgrades. But my research tells me that I should be fine with it after a learning curve
@wingfoil_mallorca
@wingfoil_mallorca 7 ай бұрын
Thank you. My opinion is, depending on your background of course, start with everything really big to progress fast. I do not suggest 1201 or 1099 for low wind if you do not have a very good level. 999 will be great for fast days! 899 as well. Good luck.

@@wingfoil_mallorca What do you think of Skinnies in comparison to the Progressive series? Is it okay to go from a 390 to a 355/55 (or even smaller) for a rider who is working on gybes, in your opinion? I'm considering the 1201 to fill the gap between my large foils: PNG 1150, BSC 970, and Art 999. Not for low wind days, as you said, but for something at 12-15kt (I call it not low :)). Currently my 970 feels too slow in these conditions. I'm not sure though if 1050 could work for me better. It's a very poplar wing but it has the same size as 970. It must be faster, but aren't they in the same league? Maybe 980-930 would work better and 1050 and 1201. It's just so many options...

@@wingfoil_mallorca I wanted to ask you because I'm in doubt about how to proceed. I'll tell you briefly, I'm starting out in wingfoil and two months ago I bought a 112 liter reedin board with a 5.2 m sail. I weigh 80 kilos and am 1.80 tall. The problem is that I can't balance to be able to navigate standing up. For this reason I don't know whether to continue insisting on this same board or get a bigger one, I had even thought about a SUP board. Like the time? I never did sailing sports. Only boat and sometimes jet motorcycle
@wingfoil_mallorca
@wingfoil_mallorca 7 ай бұрын
Hi again, you are on the right track thinking you should start with a bigger board. Try a SUP and go out and practice learning to navigate with the wing. You need a steady board so you can concentrate on working with the wing. When you have the skills to go out and back and also jibe in both directions you can go back to your Reedin board. Now your chances to make it have increased lot. However a 5.2” board for a rider with no experience is usually too small to start with. If you can, try/borrow a bigger foil board of 6’-7’ and see how you feel with that one. However you will outgrow such a big board quite fast but many times it is absolutely crucial to start that big. Give this advice a try and come back to me and let me know how you do. Good luck!

Great Review. I know he was standing on a slope at the beach but his Paddle length seemed a little long compared to some Pro DWSUPFer's. Does Ruben use a different length Paddle for Flat Water vs DW Bumps/Waves/Swell?

Hang on and I’ll let him tell you. But as far as I know, I have only seen him with the same paddle last months.

Hi, yes when you are in the water shorter will be better, you have more power and les shoulder efforce. But when you are flying some times i dont touch the water in some strockes, that make me some inestability. We are now testing going with a paddle two pieces and we change the large when we are flying

Also in every country has different power swell, you can see people that when thay are flying not use the paddle again, only pumping with the legs. In my place we use a lot the paddle to keep fly between bumps
