I know rules will be missed and I havn't seen the whole thing yet just saw yall Duel. You don't reset your honor dial "back to what it was" you leave it at whatever you bid for the duel. That can help set you up to trigger other events/effects.
@teamcovenant

Thank you for this! We have pinned the comment to help other players see the correction. The rule you mention appears in the Rules Reference on page 23: D.4. Reveal honor dials The players simultaneously reveal their bids. Once a player reveals an honor bid, the dial is placed next to the player’s stronghold and remains as a reference point until the next honor bid occurs. Apologies for the miss!

Any way you could have it pop over the video as text or something like that? For me it was confusing, I saw the pinned comment later but people might not check comments.

This video is still helping people on 11/14/23. I got into this game a month or two ago and I’ve been trying to track everything down (good luck finding Clan War & UFLS now). Just chiming in with some praise. Hey... there are lots of L5R play vids on KZbin (both liveplay and via TTS) and I thank _all_ content creators for these. But I *really* enjoyed this vid because you managed to shuttle in a boatload of teaching while keeping the game lively with the back-and-forth conversation of long-time friends. Kudos to you guys, you're awesome.

A good habit to be in is to abbreviate characters to the last part of their name. The first of the two names on the card is a family name, and we're going to see a ton of Mirumotos, Shinjos, and Bayushis as things progress. Raitsugu, Tatsuo, etc are the characters' individual names.

I am indeed watching this 3-4 years later, just so you know, ;). Very informative and good job stopping to explain things, many of these kind of videos are boring because there isn't enough quality commentary its just two dudes playing a game together. I bought this game today and played a game with one of my mates. It was fun, but we didn't understand a lot of what was happening during the game. But my interest was definitely piqued. Thusly, I found this video, and it's got me even more hooked on this game I've really only played once. The quality of the video is phenomenal, and the way the items of the game are explained as play progresses is helping me understand the intricacies of it. Looking forward to more L5R content from these creators. Keep up the good work :)

Team Covenant FYI, the rules reference still states that the first player is chosen randomly. There is a lot of confusion over this because during tournaments different people were doing different things. I hope if FFG is planning on changing it to the winner of the toss gets to choose, that they release something official. See Rules reference page 15.
@mattphillips4803

According to the judges at GENCON the winner of the toss decides. That's what I'm basing it on. I thought that was updated in the new reference.

If you don't know already, Jigoku Online is a free way to play L5R online, and their community is super nice and supportive. They also have done fanmade expansions since the game went out of print which helps add life to it (though there are formats on Jigoku that are true to paper), and they've even had tournaments and events at conventions as recently as this year. Definitely something worth checking out if you're looking to play with other people.

You two always do such a great job of walking the viewers through the plan instead of just a playthrough!! Steven, I make no promises about not commenting on all these videos because we both know I probably will!! I'll be honest, I'm stunned that you didn't decide to use an Assasinate at 1:04:00. I saw them in your hand in the video, and giving up that province and conflict is such a huge hit, especially because you could have used Assasinate to make it a 0 to 0 conflict, returning Fire to the unclaimed rings pool so that you could swing it back in for the Dishonor on the Dragon Clan Champ.

At 55:30, I believe the conflict should have been unopposed. It does not matter that Steven originally had a defending character in the conflict. What matters is that at the time of the skill count, Steven has no ready or bowed defending character with at least 0 skill (no "-").
@joshuamorrow5318
@joshuamorrow5318 7 жыл бұрын
The "-" distinction you added in parentheses is moot, because there can't be any "-" characters at the conflict at resolution. Any "-" character who somehow finds themselves at a conflict of that type, most likely due to a conflict switching type, immediately bows and returns home before moving to the next action opportunity.

Y'all asked for a comment! Thinking about getting into the game, maybe a new video on the state of the game/ how to get into it now a few years removed.

There is a mechanic called influence that allows you to bring in cards from another faction!

Watching in 24 cause miniature market had a massive sale. Got a whole mess of packs and one big box ranging from 2.99 to .99! Now i gotta find a core set at a decent price.

That was a great watch, thanks! Question, and sorry if you've already answered this elsewhere, but how many core sets of the L5R LCG would one have to buy to have a complete play set of the core material?

Yikes! Again! Thanks. If an FFG rep happens to see this, I assure you that I'm clever enough to follow a deck list, and I'd rather pay a few dollars more for a complete play set. The current system definitely makes me feel like you want me to spend $120+ so I can fill in the small gaps in the core set. Alternatively, being able to buy the remainder in a separate pack or online offer or something would be fine too.

George The l5r core set is actually very incomplete, with 1 ofs of the clan cards and 2 ofs of the neutrals (if i remember properly) so you're not getting a ton of extra copies except for neutrals

Great video and explanation of phases. I'm still on the fence with this one though. I love the theme, the cards etc but still, there's so much going on it's pretty overwhelming. Took couple yrs before I decided to purchase Netrunner. I read the rules several times online and watch video after video for that game. Now I'm doing the same with L5r. Do you guys think this game is harder to learn than Netrunner?

It seems really hard to plan for the future in this game since you can just play cards into cards during the conflict phases. I'm just not used to that. I guess you can judge what your opponent might try to be doing based on how much fate they keep going into a conflict
@teamcovenant

That was one of our biggest critiques. You really need to have excellent knowledge of the card pool.

Team Covenant this link is to Netrunner tokens. I actually cant find the fate tokens anywhere on your website. I would imagine the wait list would get larger quicker if it were up there for people to see ;)

Id love to see a gameplay of decks from just 1 core set, im thinking of trying the game out but if its a hard requirement to have 3 core boxes then im probably not going to get into it.

With this whole shut-in thing killing the last few NR diehards in our tiny, tiny meta, this seemed like a good one to get into. Just one Core set and the Imperial Cycle so far, but looks like a lot of play right there. Looking to get a grounding in the basics after losing convincingly to the better half in our first few games.
