For those of us who know nothing about welding, please explain the differences. I think there is no other farmer channel where the level of independence that you have is rivalled. It gives me a warm feeling of pride even though we are not al all related

Stick welding uses a consumable stick with flux coating on it to weld....no gas required. You typically use stick welding to do heavy, thick metal welding. You also have to chip off the slag to expose the actual metal weld underneath. MIG uses a wire filler that comes thru the center of the torch/tip and melts as you go, and there's gas that is used to shroud the weld and keep it from oxidizing, pitting, etc. There is no slag left over to chip off (unless you use a special dual shielded wire that leaves a weld that looks like a stick weld. TIG uses a non-expendable tungsten electrode to melt the metal and the separate filler rod that you feed into the "pool" as you go. There is also gas used to shroud the weld. No slag left over to chip off. TIG allows you to control the weld more precisely and vary the current as you go with a foot pedal. There's a lot more to them, but that's the basic difference.

Beautiful welding! I have an amperage nob on the torch, this allows me to be able to weld while standing up. I found it hard to use the foot control while standing.

Your first passes on aluminum looked great for your first time. Aluminum TIG can be a pain. Something that has helped me on aluminum, especially thicker stuff is to pre heat it with a torch. Good job 👍

Tyler use a stainless steel wire brush to prep your alumiumn for welding ...Choosing proper abrasives for aluminum For pre-weld cleaning, such as removing corrosion or oxide from the workpiece, it's recommended to use a stainless steel wire brush. Wire brushes also eliminate concerns about product loading since there are no abrasive grains for the aluminum to stick to.

Tyler, your TIG welding quality would be much improved if you keep your left hand closer to the torch and feed the rod with your thumb and fingers, instead of feeding with your hand and arm. It will give you much more stability.

I'd suggest start learning to run a E6010 DC electrode. It's a little harder to master but a lot less clean up in your root passes. Then you can come back with the 7018 for capping.

You have to Prime the LONG HOSE with argon before you start welding. Its going to take a fair amount of gas to fill up the hose prior to start.

I was looking at buying my grandson a welder as he has started working for a welder. This looks like it would work as his first welder. I was looking at the description and noticed there was also a cooler for the unit. Is this a requirement. I was currently looking at the miller 211. If you had your choice would you stick with the everlast or go with the miller 211. Thank for the timely video.
