Learning the art of a Perfect Pour.

Late this winter, a team of Tree House team members ventured to the Czech Republic to attend the Lukr Perfect Pour Academy to learn the art of the perfect side pull beer pour.
This video captures their journey of immersion in the Czech beer culture, shares some takeaways, and most importantly, centers on the importance and dedication to the perfect pour.

I drive 39 min every week to only buy a variety of beers from Tewksbury. I have immense respect for the entire team at Treehouse. Having lived in Austria in the 70s when almost every town had a brewery, my recollection of what Puntigamer was poured like reminds me of Pilsner. Love all of the the Treehouse channel videos. Great information and a great video (as always). I have been to Prague and I still dream of the Kozel Dark I had there. I just saw one of the breweries here in NC posted just last week, that I haven't made it to yet, has a certified pourer. This video pushes them up to the top of the list to get over to visit.

I love beer poured off a Lukr -- but I'm skeptical that the head of foam preserves aroma, flavor, etc all that much. But would need to do some real side-by-sides to know for sure of course. For me, the primary function is more of a flavor and texture thing -- the foam has it's own sweet flavor and creamy texture than compliments the wetness and sharpness of a crisp lager when sipped in unison, not unlike a the foam on a cappuccino or a cream top on an iced/coffee cold brew. Funny how that isn't emphasized as much, but that's what I love about it.

I love this for the side pour. Just hope the main bar in Charlton can use glasses more frequently, every time I've come my pour has been in a plastic cup and it dampens the experience for such top notch beers. I have purchased the beautiful 19 oz glass but I can't bring it/buy it every time!

we haven’t used plastic cups since winter and made it a company policy to never use them again during normal business. it required big investments in glassware management and a big effort by the team but that is where we are at. I am sorry it took this long, but Tree House’s foot traffic is but one of one and we had unique problems to solve.

I've learned about the side pull through a local brewhouse and i'm surprised at the nozzle going in the glass. Not that i've had a bad taste from what I tried anyway. Downside is the beer can't be poured into a taster glass, so milk pour it is if I don't want to commit to a beer I just want to taste beforehand.

What's used to wipe the faucet between pours? I love this type of pour. I've run a brewery for 18 years and drink for free at work, so this pour works well for me. I hate seeing the faucet in the foam though. The visual I've always given the staff is: would you like me to dip this bar rag in your pint?

To be that pedant, it's Czechia. As an aside, Bud changed its keg coupler to a winged version over the traditional model. It baffled me at first but eventually understood it. What does Treehouse use?

So, you recommend serving a third of the foam of the total volume of the glass and call this a standard? This is robbery. What you pour in the video would be splashed in the bartender’s face because it’s cheating. This is not a Czech standard, not a German standard, this is just a robbery

In Czech Republic you order beer by 0,5l or 0,3l; the glasses have more volume than that so there is room for foam. They also have a marks for the intended volume. Same goes for beers in Bavaria. If you would serve Pilsner Urquell without any foam or with thin foam in the pilsen pubs they visited the customers would riot.
