Saw her band a bit over a year ago in Baraboo, Wisconsin for $20! My wife, son, daughter and son-in-law all had fifth row seats. We knew she was an up-and-coming star, and that she would eventually become a household name, at least in bluegrass circles. What a great concert it was. She's an amazing guitarist and rivals Alison Krauss with her angelic voice.

I like the style when you tune to open D and capo up to G. Then end your “bum-dity” with index finger up pick on 1st string instead of a thumb note. The 1st string becomes the short/high G string on a banjo and strings 2-5 are tuned open G similar to a banjo. From there you can change 2-4 to any banjo tuning you like.

Went out last night to take a look around, Met Little Sadie and I pulled her down, Went right home, went to bed, .44 smokin' under my head.... Woke up next morning bout a half past nine, horses and the buggies all standing in line, Gents and gamblers standing around, They was takin Little Sadie to the buryin' ground I couldnt believe what a deed I'd done, Grabbed my hat, and away I run, Made a good run, but a little too slow, They overtook me in Jericho.... I's standing on the corner reading on a bill Along come a sherrif from Thomasville, Said "Young man is your name Brown.. Remember the night you blowed Sadie down" Well they took me downtown all dressed in black, Put me on a train to send me back, Send me back to the county jail, Had nobody for ta' go my bail. Well the judge and the jury they took the stand, Judge a held the paper in his right hand... 41 days, 41 nights, plus 41 years to wear the ball and stripes.....

Still awesome! I picked up claw hammer banjo over the past year, and am much more of a roots guitar player. This is a very cool style with lots of possibilities. My advice (I didn’t come up with this): any time your lost in the pattern (typically bum ditty, but there’s more comin’!), just slow it down to a crawl (even 60-70 bpm) and regain your control, then slowly work it back up to your target. Many patterns sound like nothing until you get it going faster. Then it magically reveals its nature. Real magic!! It’s a fantastic moment of victory! A metronome is your friend.

Well young Lady, That was a fine idea. Ive never heard of doing that. I play in a loud garage rock band. Im glad for it. Ive written songs since the mid 70's but I really, really enjoy cave creating. That would me in my place with my guitars and sound, recording stuff. I cant stay away from using the drop D on 6th. It just sound so good. With my unskilled hybrid flat picking style, I am taken back into the old days of folk, bluegrass early American music that I love., and heck throw in a capo and old Dennis starts losing sleep. Im excited to try your hammer style on a guitar. The hammer style on banjo is what I like. Not the E.S. picking rolls. I know the old timers played claw style banjo but doesnt Rhianon Gibbons with Carolina Ch. Drops do a fine job of it. Honestly speaking some more,,,I personally enjoy the sounds that our instruments award us with as we redeem the talents that folks originated before industrialism or back when everyone was a farmer. Simple solid words can be sang with pride and remembered. To me,, I think that creating some new songs that are built like the old ones and using techniques such as yours that isnt a fabrication of new science ,but its uniqueness could grab the no-word listeners However making nice clear recordings to enjoy would be the improvement. A format for more relaxed living. Thank you for having the ambition to show others one of your lifes discoveries that can change lives. dC fayette Ga.
