Thanks Brad, great insight and some good tips too. Wish there was more content like this available for Avid.

What types of things would you like to learn? I'm thinking of starting a KZbin channel to talk more about stuff like this.
@ripvanmarlowe Жыл бұрын
@@tobleradventures I think it's just great to get an insight in to what goes on in larger productions. This can all be applied to less complicated stuff. I work in broadcast but not HETV but I'm going to adopt some of these custom timeline views to make my life easier. I'd also love to know more about how you track these things externally in databases etc. Thanks for sharing the wealth

Hi Brad, really useful and interesting video! I have a question: if a shot is extended to be longer than the head handle and you need to turn it over again, how do you set the frame counter? Is there a way to make the counter go negative so that every frame keeps the original frame count?
@tobleradventures Жыл бұрын
Yes, I can talk about how you would go about doing this in a separate video if you'd like?

What exact version of Avid is this?

I'm not sure of the exact version, but it looks to be from 2018.x.

So is Avid your favorite editing software?
@tobleradventures Жыл бұрын
There a some things I like about Adobe Premiere Pro, but otherwise yes, Avid is my all time favorite.
@piotrparuch2164 Жыл бұрын
@@tobleradventures Is this even possible on other software? Like Resolve or Premiere?
@tobleradventures Жыл бұрын
@@piotrparuch2164 I'm not too familiar with Resolve, however, with Premiere I believe a similar workflow could be possible. It would have to change slightly obviously because it's a different software but the principal would certainly remain the same.

This is incredible! Can you tell us how many shots were in this episode alone? You should do a masterclass on VFX editing. I would attend!
@EditaufSchnitt2 жыл бұрын
@@SuperChristiancollin thx, I already know them. Just wanted to encourage Brad to go for it ;-)

Thanks! I've never considered doing a masterclass but maybe I should. To answer your question, I believe there was a little over 1,000 VFX shots just in this episode.

I wish they explain the VFX and shot-by-shot explanation of scenes. by the way great work

I've considered diving in deeper into the workflow. Do you have any specific questions you'd like answered?

@@tobleradventures For instance, I'd love to see how the exporting of dpx (or exrs) are done in AVID. I've been using Davinci Resolve lately to bring shots in, check colour space and, in some cases, generate the plates for vfx artists. Great content btw!
@tobleradventures Жыл бұрын
@@brcury92 typically in editorial we don't do any exporting of DPX or EXR files. Though I know Avid is capable, usually a post house stores all the RAW dailies so when we need to pull a plate and send EXRs to a vendor we create an EDL and send it to them (or upload to their portal system). I can show you that process if you wish, and if you are curious to learn how Avid exports DPX/EXR files I can show you that as well, though in the field this will typically never be needed.
