It's often said that hitting a pitched baseball is one of the hardest individual skills in all of organized sports.

The change-up "looks" like a fastball because the pitching motion is the same. The difference is the grip on the ball. Usually a pitcher will grip the ball further into the palm of the hand, with a change-up, and grip it with three, or even four fingers. You still have the same arm velocity, but the ball comes out of the hand with less velocity. Hitters will study a pitcher to know at what points in the count, and the game they like using certain pitches more or less frequently. This gives hitters a higher percentage chance of "guessing" what pitch is coming next. The pitchers also study film on what each hitter likes to swing at the most, what location around the plate they get the most/least hits from.

@@TeamHuddle321 I am a diehard Boston Red Sox fan, and Pedro Martinez used the changeup (as well as a terrific fastball) to fool hitters. He did a slight variation on it - usually, you put your thumb and pinkie finger on the bottom of the baseball, and the other three fingers on the top. However, Pedro and several other pitchers would move their index finger to where it looked like a circle. Hence, the term "circle changeup."

If you want to talk about devastating batter lineups, I'd suggest either looking at the Oakland A's from the 90's with Henderson, Canseco and McGwire or go to the original, what was called the "Murderer's Row" of the Yankee's in the late 1920's with Combs, Koenig, Ruth and Gehrig . The front four hitters of the team are usually the stars of the team with Cleanup reserved for power hitters and lead off being usually a speedy guy who gets on base.

That is crazy to think that there are so many different variations of pitches and batters don't really have a lot to go of before attempting to hit the ball

The Jabulani ball from the 2010 World Cup is a good example of a knuckleball in another sport. That ball, if you hit it with no spin, it would move erratically in the air because of the airflow interacting with the weird panels of the ball and no spin to counteract it.

The MLB TV youtube channel has little class moments with famous players explaining their game. A great thing to check out for a new fan or even an old head for the details. I will be going to my first Major League game in August so have been deep diving it for the full experience. Also radio stations here in the US play games you can catch on the web as well, depending on internet shenanigans.

Welcome to the great game of baseball, there are plenty of great baseball videos to react to , may I recommend the best infield/outfield throws or catches or longest homeruns.BTW we are currently in baseball season. a few stats MLB is the seconds wealthiest sports league in the world with 30 teams each team playing 162 games there are over 269 minor leagues and over 300 college teams. out of the top 50 wealthiest sports teams in the world 7 are baseball, 7 soccer and the rest are split between basketball and football(NFL)

Wow that is crazy! I had no idea the sport was that wealthy. I have been watching a couple games so far this season which have been really interesting. But there are just so many to keep track of 😂. Fun fact: the Ivy League Baseball Programs outlawed the curveball somewhere in early 1900s, as it was deemed so deceptive that it qualified as cheating. They’ve of course since done away with this rule but funny none the less

Cardinals. You wont find a better atmosphere than Busch Stadium. Even other teams fans love coming to Busch. Wrigley is great too but Cub fans can be huge assholes lmao.

Baseball is a sport of failure. For example; a batter with an average of .300 is considered to be a very good hitter, but this means he failed 700 times out of a thousand at bats! Baseball is a great sport but it's extremely difficult to master. Just ask Michael Jordan who tried but couldn't get to the majors.
