Hi I’m a dancer and have been doing the splits for more than half my life and the most crucial thing I learned in the beginning was “toes and knees HAS to be facing UP to the ceiling” (like you did the last time when you got the full split! Good job :D) that’s the only way you’ll prevent injury!! And don’t lean to the sides even though it makes it easier because you’ll only end up hurting yourself. Other than that it’s just a lot of stretching and pulling the muscles as much as you can! Find different ways to stretch, laying your stomach down on the floor while in the splits, sitting against a wall and ask someone to push your back or use a stretching-band! Good luck!
@Iau_ura4 жыл бұрын
What do you mean by facing up ?
@chevon19204 жыл бұрын
But that’s impossible until you are actually on the ground, I’ve tried and tried, 😭😭😭
@tommyslamp92274 жыл бұрын
Well your toes and knees should match the way your body is leaning to, somif you are om tje ground, toes and knees shouldnt be pointing to the ceiling otherwisenit is a a different stretch
@andreahjalmarsson10924 жыл бұрын
Clara Oswald Well yeah I see what you mean but the leaning forward (with the entire body) method I think you’re referring to is not that good of a stretch.. it’s better to think of it as going straight down from a standing position when you’re a beginner! But as long as the knees doesn’t hurt it shouldn’t be a problem! Be careful when easing in to the stretch and out of!

If your knees r hurting that means your hyperextending, try ur best to relax yourself muscle in the middles. You can see how tense she was which can cause the knee pain, I’m not saying that’s always the case but that was the case for me so try ur best to relax ur face muscles, release the tension in ur shoulders, and last but not least try not to flex ur knee so hard while in the middles and focus on breathing (:

Congratulations, hard work pays off! Just a tip for everyone learning the splits - heel needs to be on the floor and toes facing up like you're sitting normally - otherwise you're going to hurt your knees. For those that can do the splits you can turn your feet front towards the floor and lean forwards, it's going to stretch your inner thighs too. But don't do it if you're not down yet!

For about 2 years I haven't even attempted to do a straddle much less a split, but now with quarantine and everything I have decided to get my splits again. I hope to get it within a month or so. For all of those wanting to "get the splits", please, please, please understand that most people do not have the structure (i.e. bones) to do full splits with legs straight out to the side. If you're in this category (and you likely are), after you eventually work out your muscle tension all you will be doing is damage to the hip joint. Think labrum tear, stress fractures, etc. Take it from the old school yogis that are all getting hip replacements these days...it's not worth it.

She’s stretching wrong , will cause permanent ligament damage, pushing your weight on knees turned in is stupid. You have to turn your hips out . Watch a professional ballet Dancers stretch video. 90% of the videos I’ve seen on here are using awful and dangerous technique. It’s not all the same as long as you get there, you might end up at same place but have permanent injuries ...

@@TheAlsdkf Thanks for the information! I actually figured out that the pain is coming from medial hamstrings and the pes anserine muscle group mixed in with some hip tightness. Was putting awful pressure on the pes bursa. So I'll need to loosen all of that up. But yes this way of stretching probably isn't great for anyones knees o:

It was hilarious when, done the split at the end, you watched to one leg then to the other 😅 6:49

It took me mid March to the end of June to get my middle splits So that’s like 4 months I stretched intensely everyday for hours Shortly after that I got my right spits followed by my left splits (I did full body stretching) Then I broke my shoulder and couldn’t stretch for 6 weeks During that time I lost my splits but I quickly got them back All I have left is a tiny bit of my left splits and I’d be back to how I was before

Hats off to your dedication and consistency.... I have been practicing splits for 14 days but I was bit discouraged since I was not able to see any results. This video really inspired me to continue and also realised good things do take time. Thank you ma'am. Keep up the great work.
