Once again, there was an incident in the last race with Grosjean, who wouldn't let the top 2 lap him, as he was too occupied with this own racing. So once again it's the other Haas drive that's at fault in that aspect, if you are to pick one.

GmodGTX It's not true that he's hard to lap but he does tend to push drivers who try to overtake him off track in a rather unsportsmanlike and sometimes dangerous manner (see Baku 2018, Hungary 2017 and Malaysia 2017 plus a couple more I think)

As a motorcyclist, we’re taught to look at the exit of the corner on our road tests. It’s incredibly easy to get used to at the pace he was going, within hours of passing my test I was well over 130mph (on a track 👀) still looking for the next corner and it’s so easy to do with a tiny bit of practice 🤷‍♂️ it’s been years since I did my test and you do it without thinking relatively quickly

They probably did test it but found that drivers like Maldonado, Ericsson and Kmag were actually locking onto other drivers to target. They had to abort.

I learnt to "aim high in steering", that is past bends in the road, and as far ahead as possible.. Miraculously you go straight down the middle of your lane and around a curve perfectly, looking as far ahead as possible .. This was when I was learning to be a long haul truck driver back in 1973, my instructor was a Brit, ex rally sports driver

If you want to improve your peripheral vision you should try to play some rythm games like osu! or stepmania. The reason being that in rythm games you need to process multiple visual cues in a very short amount of time and then coordinate your hand movement accordingly, so instead of looking at each cue individually you look in the general direction of them and try to let your brain guess what's going on.

@@Moody_Blues_ I know but this is just to practice the concept of peripheral vision. Because rythm games pretty much only require peripheral vision and hand eye coordination. So you eliminate other factors that could make the practicing of peripheral vision less effective. I'm not saying you'll get better at racing by doing this but it's a great first step to understand what Magnussen is thinking in this video and how he isn't looking at what seems important. I'm sure a lot of people don't really understand what peripheral vision means but it's really easy to experience in rythm games.

Looking one or two points ahead was one of the hardest things I found when learning to ride a motorcycle quickly. At first, it was so hard not to just stare at the corner entry or apex during the turn instead of looking at the entry to the next corner.

They have developed the raw skills mentioned in this video and with a bit of time, they are reasonably successful in the new sport.

As a motorcycle rider you gotta train this look ahead as well, because even on the public roads its important to get the right line. Without this knowledge you'll never hit the right line.

There's also more that you have to take into consideration on a motorcycle, not just the line but the road surface, any unevenness, any debris, any painted surface, any manhole covers, anything that can take a motorcycle down that car drivers don't even have to worry about - and have that all ready in your brain for when the idiot car driver pulls out in front of you and you have to instantaneously pick the best possible collision avoidance route. And if you don't learn to do this, you drastically increase the odds of getting yourself killed.

I knew that already. Years ago i saw a Doku about WRC. And there was those Eye Tracker to. And you saw, that Rally Drivers ALWAYS look as far as possible. And they try to position the Car already for the Point, as far as they can watch. Thats one Reason why Monaco is so hard. Because in every Corner are those Walls. And you can not watch as far as you like.

And is also why many talking about blind corners. Like on Spa where in the fast corner you wont be able to see when it turns to the left, as you going up hill, so you basically only seeing trees or the sky. It is also why I love rally and why their co-drive have to be so far ahead with their notes. I mean when the drive is in a corner, he not already had put the car up for the next, but also know the next few corners through his co-driver

The eye tracking on Kevin and where he is already looking does make sense. I mean, I remember when I learned to drive a car, that if I begin to lose the car and a tree is near by (Like the a single tree in miles) then I shouldnt keep my eye on the tree to try to aviod it. It only makes it worse and will make me to crash into it. It fits with that our brain is trained to go where your eyes is looking. I also in general when I driving looking at a spot ahead of me, like at the horizon, like if I had a clear view to it. Abit hard to describe what I mean. But I also think that I unconsciously keeping my eyes focused on a point around 20-50 meters ahead of the car (Not really sure, I havent been good to see the measurment by eye sight, but basically keeping my eyes focus on one to two car length ahead) when I driving in racing games, like F1. I only forcusing on the corner itself if I need to make sure that I dont hit it or something like that. Like a inside of a corner in Monaco. I also know that when playing Audiosurf that Im able to keep my eyes focused at the end of the track, and move around without focusing there. I think it is something I need to work on in racing games more

it´s funny, for show jumping with my horse I was always told that it´s important to be one or two jumps further with your eyes and mind than the actual jump your jumping next, just like they told matt in the car about the corners

Where would that car be in the next few seconds, while I trying to get out and join the main road. Even more so for the truck drivers

Eye tracking test might be done with VR .. because with 16:9 screen its like u have no lateral vision .. u re litteraly watching the world through a window .. i remember a GTs VR competition i have done .. its way easier to get something like magnussen .. simply because u can turn your head

This training (apart from the eye tracking) won't do anything for you since you're going to be playing GT Sport at the end of the day. GT Sport's physics are quite different from that of AC's and you'll need to be actively playing GTS and it's daily races to learn how to better yourself.

A lot of these things you can do your self with a bit of improvisation but the most important one is training your peripheral vision and you don't need to spend big bucks to do it. There's all sorts of visual exercises all over the internet that you can do at home for free. If you have a simulator you should spend entire practice sessions not worrying about lap times but just focus on improving your vision. You will get faster from it. If I could give just one piece of advice for this it's not to look ahead but to think ahead , if you can get your mind in the corner the eyes will follow.

easleyrider - I’m amazed at how far down the track they look, while also maintaining accuracy in positioning their vehicles in the corner. When I try to look that far down the road I start to lose consistency in my positioning. I think it’s only possible because they’ve been racing the same circuits forever and can intuitively feel exactly where they are from the forces on their car and body, leaving their eyes with less work. In a car that can corner with high g forces, looking so far forward seems to be how they offset how fast and intense everything is that’s happening. Looking so far down the track is how they slow down what’s happening and stay ahead of the car and track. Incredibly hard to do from my experience but impressive as heck.

You have to use your peripheral vision to guide yourself through the corner while preparing for the next one or any obstacles that may be in the way. Its not easy, as a motorcycle rider you have to do the same thing. It takes practice to get used to it.

The issue with the process that you have described is that at speed, it does not give you enough time to process and react. You hit your marks by using your peripheral vision - this is just using your peripheral vision more than you are used to doing, and being aware of more parts of your visual field at all times then you are used to being.
