I've been a bass player 34 years, and I have to say this is one of Ale's sickest bass lines (among many she's written). Her main riff has such a groove and along with Pau's drums is so damn hypnotic. Ale can ride the open notes with a sprinkle of embellishment that doesn't take away from the song. That is rare for young bass players (she's only 18 and started bass 9 or 10 years ago) she has raw talent. When Dany comes in with the riff on her guitar it's adds that extra somethin' somethin'. Can't forget Pau's lead vocals on the song that just pull you right into the story. The Warning are world class MUSICIANS, they are a world class band, they write the most incredible songs, and have the most loyal fans on the planet! And you have all been Warned! ⚡⚡⚡🤘🤘🤘

watching you play this, clearly a good bassist, and as a bassist myself, has served to back my stance that Alejandra Villarreal is an EXTREMELY good bassist. Her level control is SO consistent, tone is so consistent these days, and her left hand technique is miles better than how most of us do things (Even though we get away with it perfectly well most of the time). Great job on this! What a GREAT song to learn!

That was awesome. I've been drumming for 36+ years and just recently took up bass and learning real sheet music for the first time, LoL. Anyway Ale has been a huge inspiration for me while learning to play, this song has been particularly difficult for me to play because I have early onset arthritis but I power through. It makes me remember when I was 14 or 15 and and powering through dexterous parts with the greatest of ease. I had no idea I wouldn't be able to pull off those parts in my 50's. The Warning up until just recently used to give personalized tutorials to the higher level tiers on their Patreon, I took too long figuring what song I wanted and then they stopped offering that reward... So it would be cool if you could maybe learn (and show us) PSYCHIOTIC and Narcisista...

Sorry to hear about the arthritis slowing you down, but glad you're still able to play. I'm hoping that people respond well to this format of video. I'd love to do more of these, and I think PSYCHOTIC and Narcisista are great contenders to be done in the future. Thanks for the suggestions!

Not a musician at all but it fascinates me to watch someone play up close like this. I still watch that infamous Danny Carey drumcam video of him playing Pneuma from time to time. And the video that Ale posted a little while back of just her playing Hysteria. Actually watched that again yesterday, it's up to 2.7M views. And come to think of it, that's how I found The Warning. Was looking for drum covers, mostly of Tool songs a few years back and stumbled onto a 10 year old Pau covering a Kelly Clarkson song. And into the rabbit hole I went. Back to this video. You've done something special and pulled back the curtain to show us how you learned it. Add in whatever commentary you want to make about the song and it's structure, and that's good content. Have you ever considered (or do you) teach bass? Seems like you'd be a good teacher.

I've never taught bass, but its definitely something I was hoping this channel would be come. I started off doing that, but struggled to figure out a way to connect with the audience. Of course, I was just starting on YT, so there was a lot I was figuring out. Maybe this method is the way to go about doing it!

@@TimOatesOnBass Was rewatching your Queen of the Murder Scene video and may I suggest you try learning what I'm guessing is your favorite song from that album, that being P.S.Y.C.H.O.T.I.C. I had to relisten to it a couple of times to clearly hear the bass and why you liked it so much.

Nice job Tim! I think we can all agree that for a 13 year old to compose and perform this bass line is pretty remarkable!

Well done. That was really cool. My Brother-in-Law and niece are learning bass, and I keep wanting them to try some of Ale's bass lines. On the New Mayday EP, Ale has really hit another level in her playing. Any track from it would be great, but Animosity (her first original using a pick), Disciple, Evolve and Martirio really stand out to me as incredible bass lines. Love to see you react to the songs, then try the bass lines!

I still need to check out the Mayday EP in full. I think I've only heard one song (I don't remember which one). Maybe that could be a video in the future...

Cool demonstration. Love watching the process. I can see how much work it is just to learn the notes then to have to keep in time. The girls say Ale is a human metronome.

Great job Tim. Don't be too harsh on yourself☺. Agree with Maddog Jones on PSYCHIOTIC and Narcisista (you are allowed to sing the harmonies on both songs), but also the basslines from the songs of Mayday sound spectacular like fellow bass player Daisy Pepper proved. Whatever you do, it is nice to watch your accomplishments. Keep it up.

@@TimOatesOnBass Well I am actually someone who really likes a lot of bass players from Bootsy & Larry to Jaco of course to currently a lot of female bass players to be honest like Ale, (little Ellen Alaverdyan), Daisy Pepper but especially Mohini Dey (she is something else). It's not I do not like male bass players, i love them but it's great to see other perspectives nowadays. Ale is a great example of somebody who is now in the limelight for almost a decade and is still only 17 years old. I am very curious what that brings for the future. It's the same with drummers. Last week I discovered Dominic Mcnabb, 13 years old, what a player already, the same like Yoyoka, although she hits harder. The great thing is there is so much (young) talent and it is great that also someone like you can share that through You Tube. Again thanks for covering songs from my and many others favorite band The Warning.

This is a very cool video. From a musician's perspective, it's great to see someone show how they learn to play the basslines of this song. Very informative and really entertaining!

Interesting video, Tim. I like that you don't edit away mistakes. It's a video about learning a song, and getting things wrong and retrying is a core part of that! I'd definitely be interested in more videos like this. And when it comes to interesting basslines to play, there's plenty more in The Warning's catalogue, if you're so inclined :P

Some of Ale's bass lines take so much stamina even if they're not overly complicated. I have to remember to relax my hand. But I'm still learning.

Nice! But, sorry to say it, but you need to refine the technique Ale dominates perfectly, she never makes the cords to whip because of moving fast from one fret to other moving along the cords, she’s SO precise that doesn’t make any sound between notes.
