You certainly bring up a good point here... while Pearl appeared to be free, she was always bound in a way that the other gems were not. Pink Diamond used her last use of her authority to put a rather heavy restriction on pearl- one she had to actively live with the entire time when she was around garnet. The other gems avoided topics that were difficult...but pearl had a literal restriction in her brain that stopped her from talking, and she basically had to jerry rig a back door to find a way around it. That was... a casual cruelty that you would expect from a diamond- someone put in absolute authority and encouraged to view everyone around them as tools. White diamond is a prime example of that casualness- to an insane and seemingly unflappable degree- but... Pink had a bit of it too.

To be fair, i doubt that Pink intended to manipulate pearl, that is a recurring theme for pink, trying to do the rigth thing only for It to turn out horribly,ex:gem war, Stevens birth, bubbling bismuth,faking her shattering. Without being perfect, most of the things she did were moved by good intentions,she wanted to fully commit to being rose ,completelly reject being a Diamond, putting an end to the war and moving on to becoming a better person,not to torture Pearl but that's how It turned out, just like everything else. feel kinda bad for pink to be honnest :(

​@@hadbetterdays8118 I find many of the worst cruelties tend to be due to negligence, rather than outright malice. So she goes after some cool new plan, and then she casually threw out a command that had much longer term consequences than intended. That kind of defines the whole "Rose Quartz" thing. She also inflicted the tragedy of her death upon her sister diamonds and an entire civilization.

@@ADAJ342 Yeah but let's be real. How often does "I didn't MEAN to hurt you" actually fix anything? It doesn't make the pain go away. She might not have MEANT for it, but that was the result of her actions. She hurt people. And then she wasn't even faced with the consequences of her actions, because she committed suicide in much the same way a mass shooter does and knowingly left her son to clean up her mistakes.

It's why they're amazing foils for each other. White looks down on everyone an everything, standing on high, undefeated and unchallenged. Perfectly in charge. Pink, in her own way, always looked down on everything too. She was unquestioned as a leader, and her words carried weight that could not be ignored. Garnet can't ask questions as Garnet, and Pearl couldn't process or speak of her past. Until Greg, the audacious, ludicrous little human he was, put himself above her, bent her back and leaned over her, and took charge in that one very special moment.

Did anyone else notice that white pearl's color palette kinda actually looks like a faded pink palette? If that was intentional, bravo. Nice little detail. Beautiful animatic and it fits perfectly both storyline and song. 10/10

It's quite peculiar how Rose is a Villain Redeption Arc backwards. This is one of it's clearest consequences. If we had seen it the other way around, we might have been more accepting.
