I recently used your content as the prime example in a discussion I had about the value of content creation being more intrinsically connected to the enjoyment created in each individual that consumes the content, as opposed to the value being connected to the total number of people that consume the content. Basically; I was helping encourage another content creator by explaining to them that videos posted by you bring me so much more joy than videos postsd by any account that gets millions of views. So for even just one person; your content may (and in this case successfully does) have more value then the most popular videos posted on this platform. I also spoke highly of @anyaustin as an example for promoting smaller content creators because he was able to recognize their talent and value. Anyway, thanks for the continued entertainment and inspiration. I always get a solid rush of dopamine and serotonin whenever your videos drop.
@htspencer9084 Жыл бұрын
This is a really good point and I think it highlights that there is a "spectrum" of content creation. There are channels with broad content appeal but low "connectivity" (if thats the right word?) and there are more "niche" content creators that produce stuff that has a far stronger bond with its audience. Neither extremes are better than the other and I feel like all channels lie somewhere on that line and that position is independant of quality and "worthiness". You don't have to be a multimillion subscriber youtuber to have value. Likewise, it's OK to make content that has broad yet "shallow" appeal. Both have their place and both are valid. I hope your friend continues to create, if that indeed is what brings them joy.

The first game is actually a good concept haha, I think a lot of people would play a polished game like that
@htspencer9084 Жыл бұрын
As a hobbiest gamedev turned failed indie gamedev turned hobbiest gamedev again, lemme tell you. That "polish" you speak off. It may seem like 10% of the work, but fuck me if it doesn't feel like 90% of the effort. Getting a game to look, move, and most importantly feel "polished", is one of the hardest things to get right and is an endeavour devs, designers and artists spend lifetimes perfecting man. I'm not trying to disagree with what you said but your comment defo sparked a minor bit of trauma in me lol 😂
@scrub_jay Жыл бұрын
@@htspencer9084 Oh I didn't mean to imply anything contrary to that at all. I have done some hobby dev as well, I know how insanely complex it can be. I was just trying to give props to the designer for having a pretty interesting/unique premise, which even many well-polished games cannot say.

Yes! Finally someone else who gets how frickin' weird it is that we've normalised cars being operated by pretty much everyone. Ok, so I get they're designed to be "safe" to drive and for them to run in a "standard" manner. But like... Everyone? Everyone. You're telling me: everyone. Nope. No. No thanks. Nah. Add the fact that all it takes is for *one* person, whom apparantly has been allowed to drive, to decide that today is the day they're not going to take it seriously enough... Bam, everyone else around is getting fucked up. If you had to explain the concept of big metal machines that weigh orders of magnitude heavier than us and go orders of magnitude faster than us to aliens, they'd be like "Woah, that sounds super dangerous. So like, only a select group of people get to pilot these and you keep them away from your weak, feeble fleshy meat sacks right?" No little alien buddy, pretty much anyone who just keeps throwing money at the tests and eventually pass (and never gets tested again FOR THEIR ENTIRE LIFE) can do it and we keep all the metal death machines whizzing by us within like a couple of metres. Those alien bros would think we were bonkers, and rightly so!

He's doing 65 down a country road, smoking a cigarette with one hand, the other hand switching between fiddling with CDs and shifting back and forth between 4th and 5th gears for no apparent reason. His knees were doing all the steering. It was equal parts impressive and terrifying.

Let me impart some of my German car-driving-wisdom here, since -- as far as I understand -- Americans get their licenses thrown at them as soon as they turn 16. For effective parallel parking: 1. Line up your A column with their B column 2. Turn your wheel 100% to the right 3. As soon as you reach 45 degrees to the parking spot turn the wheel 100% to the left 4. Your lined up perfectly. Get out with a smug smile for any potential onlookers
