Wait so Americans can do a driving test in an automatic car then drive a manual legally? That can't happen in the UK which I guess why the majority of people learn to drive manual in the UK. 2 different licenses, full license = learning and doing test in manual which allows you to drive Manual and Automatic OR a automatic license where you learn in automatic and do your test in one and you're not allowed to drive manual (Unless you do the full license).

@Magga19916 жыл бұрын
Hey @VaderPepe and @ImStorm YT , may i give you a little advice. The only problem is that if you are on a hill with a manual stick car and let out the clutch and the brake, the car will start to roll backwards, if your not fast enough to shift and drive. So here´s the advice: Let´s say you are on the road and there comes a traffic light on a hill and you have to stop. So, point of departure, car on a sloping, car standing still, engine is on, right foot on the brake, shifter in manual position. Now you can lift your handbrake and let go the pedal brake with your right foot. The car won´t move. You now have all time of the world to do the following. Left foot put down your clutch completly, put in 1st gear, then slowly release the clutch, BUT hold it at the point where the car normally on even roads starts to roll (we are calling this "grinding point") , slightly push the gas pedal with your right foot, your are stil holding the clutch "at the grinding point" and then you release the handbrake, a little bit more gas, releasing the clutch completly and instant ready to go with your car, no roll back, no fear to stall. ;) Try this at first on even ground, once you masterd it, you´ll love every hill your going up, out of first gear :) I was teached this on driving school, but nowadays i am confidend enough to do the normally shifting gears out of 1st fast enough without the handbrake thing on a hill. I normally use this only if i travel around with a big loaded trailer and have to start at a realy big hill ;) Have fun trying this out and greetings from germany!

The hill definitely did help me out cause it was my first stick shift truck, just have to be super quick with the clutch and gas and you're good.

Rule 1) Don't rest your hand on the stick, or you'll wear out the gears _way_ faster than they should be. This is the only rule you really need to memorize. A lot of people make a bad habit out of forgetting this simple rule--more due to complacency than anything else--but it means more than triple the tune ups than you should _ever_ have to do in that vehicle's life time if you rest on it constantly. my first stick was a 72 datsun 240z that i got for 800 bucks when i was a kid...it had 150,000 miles on it, and was from the east coast and rusted so bad that the guy had the seats bolted to sheetmetal from the back of a washing machine, "secured" to the 3ft gaping holes in the floorboards with sheetmetal screws...It had so much bondo on the body that we brush painted the thing with a bucket of white paint...at least it was one color then...Those were the days! The clutch and the 4speed worked well though...everything else was falling apart down the road

Honestly Jordan, you should get a manual daily. Nothing crazy, something like a VW GTi. And just drive that around in traffic and to run menial errands. You won't have to worry about burning the clutch or stalling or anything. And honestly within 3 days you'll be a pro. (edit: Don't bother with the Hyundai, you're going to want something with decent power and the Hyundai will get old within a week.)

14:10 Never put the car in neutral when braking. That prevents engine braking and at high speeds can overheat the brakes. Just brake normally and when you feel the car starting to jitter press in the clutch, it's much safer that way.
@DSP13376 жыл бұрын
I am pretty sure that most modern cars apply a slight bit of throttle while the clutch is released. At least my Seat does that and the Mustang might as well. Jordans confidence might be crushed as soon as he tries an older car without this assistance AND less torque. I know what I'm talking about coming from a modern Diesel driving school car to an old Golf as my first car some years ago...
@neighbourhoodhero6 жыл бұрын
No just no
@dylanw41136 жыл бұрын
neighbourhoodhero yes...especially on a mustang you can feel the car give itself gas if you get to far off the clutch without stalling
@neighbourhoodhero6 жыл бұрын
Well no, throttle isn't added, the noise your hearing is the clutch and prop catching up to the engine speed, if you watch the revs they will temporarily drop, i haven't been in or owned any manual cars that gains revs on just a clutch pull off, granted I've never had a poxy Ford nor a mustang for that matter, clutch control is find the bite point, then slowly let it out then add throttle when your learning. Might be different in America. Doubt it though.
@DSP13376 жыл бұрын
neighbourhoodhero I have the experience, that at least the later cars of the VW group act like this. My first car, a Golf Mk 4, did only engage the clutch normally - as you said, spinning and slowly catching up to idle revs. My new car (Seat Leon 5f) as well as the car my driving school had (2016 A3 TDI), definitely applies throttle while the clutch engages. Absolutely no doubt about it and completely independent of the type of engine (HP / torque). This behaviour goes so far that when I quickly depress the clutch shortly before it could have grabbed, the revs jump up quickly before returning to idle, proving the point that throttle was applied. But - as I said - this might be different for the Mustang, still I highly doubt it.

One thing you'll learn is that every car is a little bit different in the clutch and shifting. Each transmission takes a different amount of force and the clutch engages differently. When you're in a lower HP car you absolutely need to learn how to balance the throttle with the clutch. Lower HP cars will not roll off idle nearlu as easily as the car you learned in.

It's very easy to drive manual in Denmark though. You never need to start from zero driving uphill or engine brake downhill because Denmark is completely flat. You don't have to learn handling the clutch during loss of friction either since there hardly are any slippery roads during winter. It's too easy to drive in Denmark. Danes aren't suited to drive in other countries with their manual cars because they have no experience of proper driving.

@Ajaxster6 жыл бұрын
funny enough my first car that I had was a Rusted out, dented, and scratched up 1990s - 2000s Hyundai Accent Hatch in Champagne color that I got to keep for like 3 days. It was an Auto and it was an old car my cousins were gonna get rid of so they thought I could have it but it was horribly unsafe to drive, still had fun driving way faster than that thing should have ever gone down the highway as it was literally shaking itself apart and the brakes were so rusted out they could've gave out at any moment... So when returning that car back to my cousins my dad and I stopped by a VW dealer in the area just to check it out... Ended up finding my ACTUAL first car that I still drive today, which is a used 2015 golf tsi, the VW dealer was trying to get rid of it because it was a low end base model that literally had 0 features or upgrades and was a 2 door manual. So at the time, although being about 1 and a half years old, we got a really good deal on it, my dad actually agreed to buy it after a bit of convincing from my end to get a manual as my first car, but I managed too and its one of the most fun cars I get to drive. If it wasn't for that random Weekend blowout sale at the VW dealership I dont think I would've gotten a car that new and let alone a manual. For me Manuals add a great level of engagement in driving that to me is always worth all the "downsides" to manual cars. It is not for everyone but If you are looking for your first car and are considering a manual, ignore the negativity and go for it, it will make your a more attentive driver and they're great fun, and its a good skill to know.
