In this episode, I continue the hard-headedness by taking another plane out and trying to implement the suggestions I have been receiving from viewers like you 🙂
This time, I'm flying the 400mm P51-D Mustang by Volantex/Leambe, which can be found on Amazon.
Please let me know how you think I did and keep the suggestions coming!
Stay well,
Bris

The suggestion about buying a dedicated flight radio is probably the most valuable thing if you're going down the RC plane rabbit hole. There are lots of options out there. The new Radiomaster Pocket is pretty sweet for the smaller birds and drones.. worth a look. 👍 What I would suggest to prevent crashes in the future, is keep the plane in front of you like spectators watching a car race.. It will be easier for you to react to an obstacle, rather than turning in a circle following the plane. You can only see so far ahead of you when you're focusing on the plane and reacting to whatever it's doing.. and talking while recording. Not an easy feat!

Buy a spectrum nx6,7 or ,8. It's a good investment you can then store 250 models on the radio otherwise you'll end up with a huge collection of cheapy radios. The umx are a quality smaller aircraft. And a spectrum smart charger.

I really like Spektrum products, evidence of this can be seen throughout my channel. But at this juncture, I'm not sure I want to shell out the dough for features I'll never use. This may change. Thanks 🙂

@@bigbristv Don't buy Spektrum radio gear it's way overpriced, buy a Radiomaster TX16s (4 in1). It has the features of $1500+ Spektrum radios. The 4 in 1 can be used across any and all models you can think of, and works with safe. I replaced my RTF Spektrum DxS with one, no issues. Best choice I made, as you can spend money on planes and not on a brand name.

Being a newbie i went with Spektrum because of ease of use vs the overwhelming programming of Radio Master. From what i hear if people are into spending more time tinkering with their radio than flying (not to mention the steep learning curve) then go with Radio Master.

@@mikemckinnis3877 Gotta agree with you there, but after using JR/Spektrum since the 80s, I just purchase a FrSky X20S, it a GREAT radio, dual band and receivers are WAY less expensive than Spektrum, however, the learning curve going from Spektrum to the FrSky was quite time consuming. But now I really love the FrSky X20s, and with the add on transmitter module, I'm flying ALL of my aircraft that have Spektrum type receivers.

I like your fly by trials approach. I m learning the same way I love the little voltex planes as they can take a beating. Don't be in a rush to get bigger and better planes. Just practice on the little guys for a while. I don't know how handy you are but there is a great group of people called flight test and they show you how to build your own planes . That way you can buy 1 radio and some receivers and build your own planes. You can get safe they just call it a gryo. You can pick up a nice flysky radio for about 50 bucks so check out some of flight test stuff they are on KZbin also. You don't have to start out with the top of the line stuff especially when learning. I don't mind destroying something that took me a few hours time and you can always fix what breaks.

Maybe it's been suggested, but if and when you DO get a Spektrum Transmitter, I HIGHLY Recommend finding and Instructor who also has a Spektrum Transmitter, this way he can buddy box you (your Transmitters are linked together) and if you screw up, the Instructor can take over your aircraft and prevent it from its demise. I DON'T RECOMMED Smaller aircraft as they are usually MUCH harder to fly for beginners. The BEST planes for beginners are high wing planes such as an FMS Super Easy, ANY of the E-flite Timbers etc. And in my humble opinion, if you're in the US, join an AMA sanctioned flying field, you find good Instructors and will have a LOT more success in learning how to fly RC. In addition, you won't have to worry about Remote ID stuff. If you lived close I'd be glad to help, been flying since the 80s and have been an Instructor at several clubs I've joined. Good luck.

@@bigbristv Over the years I've spoken to many people that wanted to fly RC aircraft and there have been SO MANY that went out and purchase everything to start into the hobby only to destroy the airplane on their first flight. And of course they were not only ticked but were usually out several hundred dollars and gave up on the hobby. When they tell me this, my first question to them is "would you get into a REAL airplane and try to fly it by yourself?" Of course there answer is "NO!" I'd probably crash. Then I explain to them that Flying RC Planes/Aircraft is the same way. If you want to succeed and not destroy your aircraft on the first/maiden flight, the BEST thing to do is join an AMA sanctioned club and have one of the Club instructors teach you how to fly. If you can't do that, AT MINIMUM, find someone who has been successfully flying for a couple of years and see if they will help you get started. When I started, we didn't have the buddy box, so when you screwed up and were going to crash your plane the instructor would grab your radio out of your hands to save it. It's SO MUCH EASIER for both student and Instructor with the the Buddy Box capabilities of the newer radios. I've watched a couple of your videos, you've got a good start, but try to stay with larger high wing planes when you begin. I was an Instructor for a friend of mine a couple of years ago and started him with a Phoenix Models Sonic high wing trainer. I explained to him, that once you can take off and land without feeling too nervous and you're capable of doing loops and rolls and being able to recover, then it might be time to move up to a "Low Wing" plane. Since he had all the electronics for a sonic, we moved him up to a Low Wing Sonic. Within six months to a year, maybe less, he was comfortably flying on his own and still does today.

Honestly for me the best option was a 10ch that way retracts flaps no y harnesess for aileron on bigger planes but i had a 6 worked great until i wanted more planes with more functions then i had the 6 setup for umx planes and the kids planes but ultimately ended up phasing those and the 6 out now my kids use mine with a lanyard when they fly i personally like spectrum i havent had any issues so far to complain about expect pilot error but once you have a remote it opens up alot of options for bnf models buy enough for what you want to do so you only need to do it once you should look at the valiant or decathlon from horizon i love both of them i changed out props to fit my style and there a blast there both great flying planes for me and so far ive only had a issue with valiant when i decided to run 4s a few times lol but keep up the work man your doing good looking forward to seeing you take the viper up when your ready they are awesome flying planes

Sky King F959 is a fantastic beginner or permanent aeroplane. Cheap, easy to fly, crashing doesn't harm the propellor, can easily carry a camera or have other upgrades. Only 3 channel as standard but turning quickly flips it sideways so you don't need ailerons.

The Spektrum transmitters are awesome! You’re gonna really enjoy it. Possibly helpful tip: The UMX Detroit Miss is a lot more plane than you’re expecting (I fly it a lot and I absolutely love it). The 3S motor REALLY pushes and it can fly really fast (It can eject its own battery in a high G turn if you don’t velcro it down). It’s not a great or even good plane to learn on as it’s fairly advanced and SAFE doesn’t reduce the speed, it only limits bank angle. You should get a UMX sport cub S to bind to your spektrum transmitter to, and fly that until you can take off, hold a pattern (Always keep the pattern in front of you), do some basic aerobatics (loops and rolls), and most importantly, LAND every time. After you do that l then you can probably fly the UMX Detroit Miss. Hope this helps and good luck!

Just keep in mind, that a 3D printer will run you several hundred or over a thousand dollars. Then you'll get to spend a ton of time setting up the printer, trying to get it to print correctly........many MORE hours. I have a Creality V3 (+$300), I've spent hours trying to get it set up right just to print simple stuff, bought a bunch of addons my buddy told me to get and it's pretty much a BIG paperweight.
