Putting the UMX Conscendo in the #1 spot is a no brainer! I love that plane!

If you remove the motor and put a small battery where the motor was to get proper CG, it makes a crazy fast slope soarer.

I just did a flight comparison of the Conscendo, Evo and the new Micro Draco, and I would put the Conscendo at the number one position as well. Not only does it fly well under power, I was able to slope fly it with decent wind and stayed airborne for 40 minutes with 75% battery remaining. The Evo was getting bumped around in the wind, and the Draco just felt heavy and clunky compared to the Conscendo.

I don’t know if you are aware that if you apply 75% Expo on the Twin Otter Rudder it will fly like a four Channel plane and for ground movement you can do figure eights easy. With the expo being that high the motor slows down instead of stopping without no expo. Try it you will like this UMX a lot more. 😅

The UMX Conscendo would be my number-one pick as well. I had it up for 45 minutes at the beach slope soaring. It's an awesome slope soarer. It was so good that I bought a second one, removed the motor, and put a small battery in the front where the motor was to get proper CG and slope soaring.

In general, especially on windy days, I like slopers a tad nose heavy so that you have some authority to penetrate gusts and sudden updrafts, especially when landing- where you are often trying get behind the (wind induced) rotor.

I just maidened my Conscendo yesterday. Fun plane yes but maybe my expectations were a bit high from all the glowing reviews. I don’t think it does anything most other fast and nimble planes can’t do. Also hoped it would glide more without power. Unless you have to be up quite high I found it dropping altitude faster than I’d hoped. Didn’t try the flaperons or spoilerons as I didn’t see a need, like others I’ve heard. Maybe would help it fly slower but landing it is a breeze, no problem landing at my feet. I don’t particularly like either Timber, especially the Timber X which flies very nervous. As for the others, I don’t have them. I also like UMX but it’s so windy here it’s nuts. Pretty well mostly fly the UMX Ultrix as I can float that thing in any wind. Actually that might be my favourite UMX. Good job, interesting video.

I respectfully disagree . LOL Good video . these lists do well . To me , the UMX planes have always been interpreted as a SHOWCASE model . Similar to a the Kyosho Mini Z , A very high quality , high performance miniature version of larger popular models . I have many myself , I like being able to fly them anywhere . Its hard to pick a top one or favorite . I think that opinion depends mostly on your style .

I am most impressed by the Air Tractor and the Waco, neither of which have I seen in-person. I have the UMX Conscendo. While it does fly more like a larger plane than others, it's still most enjoyable in calm air. I own the Pitts, too, but it always felt like it had to go fast just to stay in the air. Not much fun. It's a decoration in my living room.
@dhgmllcshea5038Ай бұрын
The V2 Piits can fly very slow- in light air. Try 2s- the 9gram difference reduces the plane's flying weight by 10%! You can feel the difference in slow flight.
@rickd35062 ай бұрын
Timber Evo should definitely be much higher on the list. The Pitts is rated too high. You seem to be a lot about speed. Glad you approve of the Waco and Air tractor. Not familiar with the UMX A-10. Thank you for the video.

I think this guy has his Turbo Timber Evolution set up incorrectly. It is NOT slow. Yes, It DOES fly in crazy wind. The UMX Conscendo really is a Great mini glider. It is fast. It Does Thermal. Make sure to program in the Flaperon setting. I think Slope soaring is where this one would really shine. Yes, The Conscendo really is worth every penny spent.

with a max. weight of 249g, these UMX must fight winds, still a great option for those who do not want to enter the 250g + RC plane category for known reasons. These are fun to fly and do require the admin to get them in the air legally.

Which plane is best for a beginner?
@bgblindt10 ай бұрын
For UMX planes I would say Radian or Turbo timber evolution.
@alexandernentwig959610 ай бұрын
For a real beginner, I wouldn’t recommend any of these planes, but rather the UMX Ultrix, just because of the material. This is EPP foam and way more forgiving on a crash while all of the others are out of EPS - stiffer but way more brittle. One rough landing and it will break. The Ultrix can break too, but it takes much more for this to happen and it is usually super easy to glue and restore it using a hot glue gun or foam tac. Start from there and when you mastered the speed, coordination and orientation, buy one of the more beautiful ones. (Honestly, when in the air, pretty much every plane is looking great) The Conscendo is probably the perfect successor then, because you CAN fly it very slow. As a beginner you will still be overwhelmed from the almost ridiculous speed on full throttle. But there are ways to limit the power. 😊

UMX Radian is not just easy. It's fun!

To learn to fly, you really want the Sport Cub S. Small, forgiving, cheap to repair or replace if the worst happens. Learn with 4 channels. kzbin.info/www/bejne/epavkp2vorRor8U. Or learn with 3 channels on a UMX radian.

Why do people think gliders need wind???? Only slope soaring gliders use wind to stay aloft. The rest like the radian use thermal lift which is easier to find and stay in the calmer it gets. The windier it is the more all thermal gliders suffer.
@davescott940910 ай бұрын
Thanks for the video. I've looked at all of these planes and will probably buy the Voodoo next. So many of these planes have obvious flaws. First, they're all made out of EPS foam. This is the least durable foam on the market. Horizon Hobby charges premium prices for their planes, but they make them out of the worst foam available. Second, many of these planes have their battery located in the forward fuselage, beneath a hatch which encompasses half the diameter of the fuselage. How could you make the forward fuselage any weaker than by making it out of EPS foam and removing half of the fuselage structure? Mounting the battery further back in the fuselage and not removing half of the fuselage structure to access it, would make these planes way less fragile. The Voodoo is a fairly durable design. Note it's battery bay location and design. Alternatively, the Air Tractor, Timbers, & Waco are all fragile, in comparison. Third, why didn't they put the same motor in the Pitts and Timber X that is used in the Voodoo, Air Tractor, and Turbo Timber? The Pitts and Timber X are obnoxiously loud, while the Voodoo, Air Tractor, and Turbo Timber are blissfully quiet. Fourth, I didn't truly know what a terrible sounding airplane was, until I heard this UMX A-10. Why, just why? Fifth, all planes should have rudders. How are you going to recover from a spin, without a rudder? How are you going to do a crosswind takeoff or landing, without rudder? How are you going to do a snap roll, without rudder? Sixth, why do so many of their planes, when new, have servos that stick and cause a crash. And regarding these faulty servos, why is their warranty support so inconsistent? On a more positive note, I will say most of the Horizon Hobby planes look good and fly great. I just wish they'd fix their flaws.
@dhgmllcshea5038Ай бұрын
6. Be sure to set them up at 90-95% travel MAX in all modes- i.e flaperons and spoilers at high rates. These linear servos tend to hang up or die when slammed against their limits. Also check the exposed aileron servos for debris frquently- I find grass, sand, paint flakes, etc on the gears and screws quite often.
@dhgmllcshea5038Ай бұрын
3. Yes the new 2s/3s motors are real growlers! Balance you prop- it helps some. Check the motor mount- mine was cracked after 100 flights, half of which are noseovers on our grass field. While diagnosing the increase in noise (cracked mount) I had the motor apart- thinking of balancing the prop and motor outer drum together.... That 1900 kv motor wants to go >20,000 rpm on 3s! Balance is critical.

The UMX Air Tractor is a cracker-thin, fragile POS. I ran mine into some desert brush at low speed and the amount of damage is ridiculous, from bent plastic prop hub, to twisted front end and each wing cracked at the root. And the tail wheel design? Why do they mount the tailwheel directly to the rudder??? one bounced landing and you've ripped the rudder hinge. My XK A280 P51 is built like a tank compared to the AT and it has a properly designed tailwheel...all for less money.
