LEARNING TO TASTE COFFEE: Global Cupping with Lance Hedrick and Scott Rao

Taste coffee with Scott Rao and I as we go through a roast defect kit featuring a honey processed Ethiopia from Prodigal Roasters in Boulder, Colorado. In this video, we discuss the differences between baked coffees, underdeveloped coffees, and what differentiates them from a well developed coffee.
Even if you were not able to participate live with the coffee tasting set, I think there is a lot to learn!
Also, if it isn't obvious, quality wasn't ideal as we had to record through zoom, given he is in Colorado and I in Portugal. But, I think there is a lot to learn here about tasting coffees! Hope you enjoy.

We had a Commandante Cup Comp and video called with the founder and they recommend 23 clicks as the starting point...

I just got to this due to business and family travel through December. The thing I noticed was that I have tasted something in a few coffee shops across the US that roast their own coffees. After this cupping the underdeveloped coffee reminds me most, altough the coffee shop coffees aren't as pronounced hay flavor as this cupping. Something interesting to know.

This cupping is very similar to the Hoffman French press method.

Just as with pulling espresso, you can't get better with cross-hemisphere live events without experience... so don't feel bad about the quality of the recording! Keep doing these things, and you'll figure out the quirks and kinks as time goes on. IMO what matters is the core quality of your teaching, and the presentation side can take a backseat as you figure things out.

Thank you! Means a lot. I was so freaked out when my stream wouldn't connect to my KZbin and had to stream on the app creator's KZbin (Vlad who created cupwise- he has 42 subs lol). I was scared because quality dropped from my set up, less people would see it, etc. But you're right- the main thing is ensuring the information is shared. Thank you for the encouragement.
