Glad that someone finally starts with decent tyre pressure....10psi should be everyone’s go to beach pressure and the tracks would all stop Getting trashed. People seem to think you need 500hp for sand driving instead of correct pressure.

what ya on about ya need 80 psi racing slicks to go off roading the pros use solid forklift tires
@Snook_
@Snook_ 3 жыл бұрын
Depends on your tyres. Muddies Yeah, normal tyres no, 10psi can bead roll with soft normal non muddies. Also tyre pressure changes drastically with temperature, so 10 hot could be 6 cold and then driving at 6 the next day to start isnt ideal...

Good to hear and see you live by your rule of reducing rubbish by not using disposable plastic crap for meals. I'm also heartened by the fact you have actually mentioned this because many other 4wd channels hardly ever mention the issue of excessive rubbish and ways to minimise this. It's a growing trend that we Aussies get out camping and promoting less rubbish will help to keep Australia Beautiful! 👍😉. Good on ya mate and everyone who lives by the rule of reducing unnecessary rubbish.

We took our 16ft road van through the north west of WA behind our 2WD Commodore wagon earlier this year. Heading out to Coral Bay we dropped them all to about 22psi and got through no problems. Even made it onto the beach (without van) and up to Telstra Hill without getting bogged.

My general starting point on trailer tyre pressure is matching whatever I drop the tow rig tyres down too...obviously keeping in mind weights of the tow vehicle and the weight of the trailer...it helps if you have matching tyres all round...you did exactly the right thing here in the vid, let em down enough to bag out, can always adjust later on. Love the new shirts!

Thanks Michael, good stuff as always. FWIW, I have a Waeco 40 that works great in the local area even on mid-40s days. Also have a Waeco (Dometic) 20lt car fridge for road tucker, or for when I use the 40lt as a freezer. And a old Chescold 3-way which works brilliantly, particularly on gas. Get them all out and working when I take the family away. Or when the power goes out for hours and days like it often does here. Looking forward to getting over there and checking out these wonderful places you show us in WA. Keep it up. Cheers!

Hey brother - Another great vid. one tip on beach launching is to get your outboard trimmed all the way up, a couple of good waves can travel up you your exhaust through the prop, so pays to keep it as high as practical while launching and retrieving. You nailed everything else!

Thanks for the video. There was an article in a Texas magazine about that. There are 2 ways to unload a boat from surf. The way you did it is when it's hard sand or you trust your rig not to get stuck. Second way is used more in soft sand unhitch your tralier and push it in but requires more than 1 person usually.

Trailer tyre pressures - we did the Canning Stock Route earlier this year towing a small home made box camper. Fully loaded weight of around 750 kgs. On Cooper all terrains on Hilux rims. Had the trailer tyres down around 8 to 10 psi. Kept having to pump them back up every morning but could not find the leaks. Finally worked out that if I kept the pressures around 15 psi, no more problems. Can only surmise that the constant bashing from corrugations and rocks was letting air escape around the bead. That's my best guess anyway...

Off roading with a boat is great fun but I have to agree, the standard trailers just aren't built to take the pounding. We broke the back of one trailer although I have to say that it was due more to cheap imported steel than anything else. We have been using a Mangrove Jack collapsible boat trailer for a long time now and that is the best we have ever had. We don't drive huge distances with the boat on it but because it is collapsible, we put it together when we reach our destination and then only have to move the boat a few kilometres. Local WA made trailer and very good quality.
@croxy57
@croxy57 5 жыл бұрын
Best thing u can do if you plan on beach launching - add a third wheel just behind the hitch, with stub axle and hub. Put a swing gimbal on it so you can lower it and drop the trailer off the car. If u get bogged you can then either tow or snatch the trailer out. It also gives you full set of spare bearings if you have trailer trouble.

I live in the USA on the east coast, where there are lots of boats and I have to say that on every weekend you'll see a quite few overloaded boat trailers broken down on the roadside. Flat tires, broken axles and frame bits scaping the ground are all common. Seems to me that trailer maintenance is an after thought to most boaters. They don't get used enough to wear out the tire tread so no one looks close enough to see the cracked sidewalls. Too many trailers get totally submerged for launching and retrieving in salt water without being rinsed afterward causing rust in all sorts of hidden places. I suspect that with a little care and proper loading you don't really need a special trailer unless you're doing some serious wheeling just to get to the water.
@stevecrop6264
@stevecrop6264 5 жыл бұрын
As others have mentioned trailer pressures the same as car. But given they were road tyres leaving them at 18 to protect the sidewalls a bit was probably about right. I’ve towed a nearly identical size boat on a standard trailer into bottle bay for 10 years now. I have light truck tyres with tubes though so can let them down quite low. You don’t really need an off-road trailer unless your doing 100’s of k’s on corrugations or rock hopping type tracks. People tow standard boat trailers on Fraser Island every day. Putting bigger wheels/tyres on and lifting the boat higher make it 10 times harder to launch and retrieve.

Have a Waeco and Evakool fridges; they all worked perfectly and have friends with Engel and had issues. All three are good fridges really, but personally find Engel designs old school. I tow a 2.6t camper off-road regularly. I go down to 25 to start and 10 if epic soft. It’s all about the pressure and load you carry. Just have to find the balance.

He asked to comment about tire pressure preference and only a couple replied what pressure they air down to. Personally it depends on terrain , snow , rock sand and also the size tire your running. Having beaded wheels help tire from slipping off rim when airing down in certain situations. Some go down to 18 , 21 lbs. You will know when your too low for sure LOL.
