Learning to write the equation of a parabola given three different points

👉 Learn how to write the equation of a parabola given three points. The equation of a parabola is of the form f(x) = ax^2 + bx + c, where a, b and c are constants. Since, the equation of a parabola has 3 constants, three equations and hence three points are needed to solve/obtain the equation of a parabola.
Given three points on a parabola, we use the standard form of a quadratic equation to set up a system of three linear equations which we solve to obtain: a, b, and c and hence, the equation of the parabola.

I would’ve simplified each equation first. The top one is divisible by 7 and the bottom one by 3, making the coefficient of b, 1, in the top and -1 in the bottom making for a simple addition to eliminate the b variable.

Is -5/2 supposed to be positive 5/2 or maybe I'm just wrong...

When I computed for b for my assignment I get: -6=-b is that possible or should I change it to 6=b

You have to divide by -1 to get a positive b. So if -b = -6 You said -b/-1 = -6/-1 B = 6

it is wrong, B should be positive so its -0.5x^2 + 2.5X - 7 = y not -0.5x^2 -2.5x - 7 = y

There you can get the equation of 3 points consecutive or not, regardless how far those points are from each other, the steps are real easy and short, you will not undergo system of equation which may be workful and sometimes confusing.
