Gut morgen, sir. These Vatsim videos are invaluable to me at the moment as I am trying to pluck up the courage to press that PTT button and actually use Vatsim haha. I'm reasonably proficient as regards to radio brevity, it's just a slight fear of making an error.

Hallo, is there somware in one of your video’s where i can find the right way to do the correct expedite decent procedure or how to handle in this situation. ATC give me this instruction but i did not reached the right altitude and speed on the final aproach fix.

Thank you Emanuel your videos are amazing. I have just begun my Vatsim journey primarily as an observer for now. On descent, how do you mange an ATC requirement/restriction to reach a specific waypoint at a specific time? "...reach DKB at time 53". And does this conflict then with a speed requirement they have already given?

ATC will hardly ever give you a time constraint for a waypoint. But if they do you can use the RTA function on the FMC PROG/3/4 page. Any given time requirement will cancel speed restrictions. ATC in Europe will not work with ETAs at waypoints though. They'll assign you a speed, that's all. That speed will seperate you from other traffic and will ensure you reach the waypoint and the time you're supposed to be there.

@@A330Driver Fantastic. Thank you very much. I was curious because as an observer I heard ATC issue that restriction to another pilot (we are in Australia). I wondered how the FMC could be used to manage it! Love flying the PMDG -700 and -800, your videos have been enormously helpful and I look forward to more.

@737NGDriver: If there is no ATC onroute, how do we proceed from top of descent? Can we start the descent? When do we call the approach? Can we find the controlled airspace boundaries somewhere in Vatsim or Navigraph?

You can do everything as if ATC cleared you for it while you are on unicom. Once you enter a controllers airspace he will send you a contact me message. I don't think there's any program or website where you can see the exact boundaries of every airspace. For a general overview try vatspy or qutescoop.

Hello, I just wanted to express that I just discovered your channel the other day. I had no idea how in depth MSFS has become since I was a kid playing in the 1990's. I got a VATSIM account yesterday and took my first flight live last night, just to get my feet wet. Learned more than i thought I needed to know already, from my experiance and from your guidance and recommendations. So, thank you for that. I do have a few questions for you. Other than sticking to VFR for now with VATSIM until I learn more about the IFR systems and procedures, what other areas should I focus on, and what plane do you recommend I work with while figuring all this out? My system: MSFS2020 basic plane package. I used the TDM 930 last night, but that planes rudders and control are really twitchy for me, makes me run all over the runway like a uncontrolled fire hose, although the systems allow room for growth (i think). but I'd would like to build up to an airliner like the 737-600 you did a bunch of vids on.

Emanuel, I noted you commenced descent by using ALT INTV. Could you have used LVL CHGE? why/why not? The respective use of these plus VS would be great to know, but I did see you select VS to achieve a specific rate. Otherwise would you not use VS then?....ta

With vnav on, the aircraft does almost everything for you, so i think that would be reason enough for you to not descent with anything else unless you need to descend faster, then you would use vs. From what I know, the only reason to use level change is if you have a failure with vnav or something like that

@@ZaytexYT really? I was reading T Metzinger's Advanced tutorial for PMDG 737NG (~2004), which had numerous features in a lot of depth. There, the author used LVL CHGE all the time - never ALT INTV - which made me ask the question. VS de-selects VNAV, but I didn't think ALT INTV or LVL CHGE did..

@@transair27 alt intervention don't deselect vnav, but if iirc level change does. You will descend without following any restrictions like speed or the next altitude .But anyway, i don't think I ever saw anyone using level change with the 737 and I also never used it. I don't see why to do it honestly, since vnav and vs are both better options

You could use LVL CHG but think about what the modes and buttons do. If you haven't seen it yet I highly recommend my MCP tutorial. VNAV would be the default mode, LVL CHG would work as well, but without speed and level protection. You'd have to make sure to comply with those manually then. I might do a video about the advantages of each of those modes in the future.

Off topic, but sould't center tank reading be single 0 instead of 000? I noticed this since the original FSX release and they did not fix it 10 years later. Minor detail, but still a detail. Thank you for these videos!

Put it on their forums. It has to be an easy fix. I’ve never paid attention to that detail. If it’s in fact wrong, and a triple zero display doesn’t exist, they will likely fix it.

Yes it should. Submit a support ticket to make sure it's seen. Forum could be missed since it's not the official was to get support.
