Careful. This can also injure the female ranchu. This happened to one of my brother's oranda females, her scales got damaged from being chased by all the males. Now we put her in her own safety container with air pump. I am getting fungus tablets today to help her heal her damage from the aggressive male ranchus and male orandas. I better keep an eye on the other females in the 200 gallon pond also. Just incase the males also damage them on accident.

Very Nice! No bio-filter system ? just 100% water change only ?
@thompsonglass9 жыл бұрын
Steppen03 Correct, no filtration of any type. 100% water change method only, for all life stages. Ranchu is truly a Japanese fish, therefore we must follow Japanese protocol for raising them.

That's incredible. Normal and heavy feeding will leads to high ammonia...everyday... How do you tackle that? And don't they need the beneficial bacteria in filter media to keep them healthy for digesting their foods ? In my pond, the fish can foul the water in a day if there's no biofilter. Please advice... I hope to learn more.

Steppen03 Yeah, it took me awhile to get my head wrapped around this whole idea. Yes ammonia builds up so stocking density & feeding levels must be under your control. A lush coat of algae does wonders for buffering the rate at which ammonia builds up. No as far as I know the beneficial bacteria does not play a role in digestion. The fouling of the water is an important tool in raising beautiful ranchu. The trick is to move them into clean water at the right time. I made a new video yesterday that shows dirty water and the ammonia level, check it out yo. There is a great topic at goldfish keepers currently about this exact subject: goldfishkeepers.com/community/threads/broodstock-questions.9217/
