I actually heard about this director from your winter sleep video. Now I've seen all but first 2 . I feel I need to rewatch pear tree that seemed to be my least favorite. He's become a favorite. Thank you for your all recommendations

There is always unexpected yet subtle humor in his movies, which I love. My favorite movie of his is Once Upon a Time in Anatolia. With its beautiful cinematograhie and the unforgettable dinner scene where a young, angelique woman brings much more than food to the troubled souls in the room, will stay with me forever.

My favorite of his, too. Followed by Three Monkeys and Climates. He acts himself in Climates, he shot that back when he was less known, and his actors were his circle of friends rather than professionals, and it shows, acting is the only weak point in some of these earlier films. From Three Monkeys onwards he started using great actors and it showed. Still, I love Climates. His eye is amazing, in terms of both photography and observations of human behavior.

thanks for introducing me to my now favourite film director! was actually disappointed by winter sleep but that's maybe because i'm just too young to understand the subtleties in it. reading the reviews made me think there was something i didnt see that they did, but upon rewatch i still cant fully realise it. once upon a time in anatolia is his masterpiece though. thank you again

Imho, Once Upon a Time in Anatolia is his best movie. There is a brutal torture-murder in the center of the movie, which we never see, with some sexual undertones even, but all the people in the movie act like it is nothing, just another wednesday and they are pretty friendly with the murderer. It is a critic of Turkish society and social psyche and with subtlety but cleverly touches class hatred, goverment corruption and desensitization of society. And the final scene is may seem dark but it is pretty optimistic because the prosecutor finally understands the lie which he has been living in. Amazing video btw.
