I'm actually just using an older Sony 35mm F1.8! Pretty awesome lens for the price and for whatever reason, it doesn't suffer with focus breathing like the more expensive 35mm F1.4. Here is the lens I use: bhpho.to/3ZNs6Ug

I was pretty sold on the 16-25 until i saw this video. Now, I think I'll spring for the 16-35. I had the 14-24 f2.8 Sigma and found myself running into the same "issue" that you found with the 16-25mm. It's a fantastic wide angle lens but it was only a wide angle lens. Having that 35mm perspective sounds like a pretty big advantage. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Yeah...it's nothing against the lens, the 16-25 is a great lens, but I was surprised just how often I was wanting to switch lenses when I used it which kind of defeated the purpose of having a zoom

Well right now I own both lenses. Got the FE 16-35/2.8 GM II when it first came out since my son borrowed my GM version 1 for his A7SIII and he now lives on an opposite coast so it wasn’t coming back soon. I use it on my A1 and A7RV. Then when I picked up an A7CR and A7CiI I first added a 25-50/2.8 G and then FE 16-25/2.8 G, bought used for the light travel kit I put together. Bought it used from a source I bought my original A7C. So I’m keeping them both. Also still have a Sigma 16-28/2.8 DG DN Contemporary i bought for the A7C but looking to sell that like I did my Sigma 28-70/2.8. Thank you and take care.

How does the 16-25 compare to the 16-35 for video in your experience as I’m choosing one to go with an A7Cii I’m also getting (along with Dan’s camera settings guide 😊)?
@stevenwaldstein2249Ай бұрын
@ Sorry, I don’t shoot video but if I only had the one lens and one body I might prefer the 16-35/2.8 GM II that gives you a wider focal range. When I shoot I have two bodies and two lenses so only swap bodies and not lenses. Also the 16-35/2.8 GM II is not that much bigger and that’s all I would carry. Now all you have to worry about is affording the GM II.
@rodrigomartin-hidalgo1592Ай бұрын
Dan, cool comparison! I don't own both of this lenses but I do own the 50-24 2.8 G. If possible, It would be awesome to have a comparison between 50mm 1.4, 24 2.8 and the 50-24 2.8! Thanks for your awesome content!

Both great lenses. But for me the 10mm more is key for me. That's why I don't need a standard range zoom for landscape + street stuff. I take the 16-35 f2.8 II and the 70-200 f4 macro and have everything I need. Excellent iq/af and also still a quite compact combo.

I've been eyeing the 16-25 for my wide angle. I just jumped into the sony world with an a7iv and got the 20-70 and now looking to fill the telephto and wide angle options. My biggest question is how well it performs with coma for astrophotography as I would be using it for landscape and would love for it to double up as an astro lens.
@learningcamerasАй бұрын
Nice! I haven't tested that but I know a few people who do shoot astro and I haven't heard of any complaints

Sony also has a 12-24 F4 lens that might pique your interest.
@learningcameras26 күн бұрын
@@duvalpenny100 I have the 12-24 F2.8 actually but rarely use it because I can't use filters. For the automotive stuff, a CPL is often a must have unless I have full control over lighting and I really like the convenience of screw on ND/mist. The 12-24 F4 has the same issue that it can't use front filters so I tend not to use it. I'd buy the 14mm F1.8 tomorrow too if I could use screw on filters on that. Canon makes a 15-35 F2.8 with screw on filters which I think is a great range

Wanted something smaller and lighter for the a7cII and ZVe1 so I went 16-25, which was a tough decision over the 16-35pz since I like the 35mm end as well. But I hate power zoom lenses. I mostly use it on the a7cII and have crop mode and CIZ to get back the extra reach. Haven’t missed the 25-35 range at all.
@learningcamerasАй бұрын
Awesome! This is where having options makes a massive difference. People ask me why I care that Sony has 50+ lenses when they only want 3 and the reason is this...options!
@trekofjoyАй бұрын
@ exactly. Though with all the 3rd party lenses it’s almost overwhelming when trying to decide on the best fit -especially with zooms since they all involve compromises whether it’s cost, size, weight, range, aperture and so on. I’ve been eyeing the 20-70/4 to replace my sigma 24-70, but the aperture gives me pause LOL! Cheers. 🍻
@smallbizdigitalmediaАй бұрын
@@trekofjoy very clever! What’s the full frame equivalent focal length with both the crop and CIZ?
@jtserrao43Ай бұрын
Ive found that the 16-25 acts more like a 14-24, strange but I’ll take it haha. Much smaller and usable than that sigma 14-24. That being said, I do miss the reach of the 16-35gm at times.
@duvalpenny10020 күн бұрын
Yeah, I just sold my Sigma 14-24 due to the weight. This Sony lens is literally half the weight. I won't miss the 2mm on the wide end.
@jtserrao4320 күн бұрын
@ they might be closer than you think. I had the GM 16-35 and the 16-25 g. The 16-25g was noticeably wider, weird for both claiming 16mm

Hi, I have the Sony 6700. I don't know if you can help me with a question. I wanted to know if you recommend me to buy the SONY FE 16-25 G or the Sigma 18-50 2.8. I want to know if the image quality is remarkable and if it is worth investing in a full frame if you have an APS-C.
@learningcameras13 күн бұрын
So I really like having an F2.8 zoom lens but I think the range on the 16-25 might be a bit limiting for a general purpose lens and it's fairly expensive since it's full frame capable. I'd either save $ and get the Sigma 18-50 or maybe look at the Sony 18-105 F4. But I just checked and B&H has a Sony 16-55 F2.8 G which is an amazing APSC lens slightly used for the same price as the 16-25 bhpho.to/40hgOrO
@nixlayful11 күн бұрын
IMHO, it is worthed to invest in Full Frame, mainly just incase you want to move from APS-C to Full Frame. Even though the APS-C nowadays is quite good, especially Pro APS-C cameras, in most cases, if you want to best it out, you are burdened with using the Full Frame Pro lenses. I think Fuji is one of, if not the only one, to bring out a line of Pro APS-C cameras and lenses that give away almost nothing to a Full Frame cameras

Since you're a de facto subsidized ("indirectly") Sony salesperson, can you go the extra mile for all our sake and finally put pressure on them to stop gaming price tiers and inflating lens prices? The entire "G-Master" cash cow has been a gloated-over ruse purchased by "influencer" lobbying.
@learningcamerasАй бұрын
So definitely not subsidized by Sony lol...even if you click an affiliate link, I make the same few $ if you buy a Canon, Nikon or Sony. That's why I'm a fan of affiliate links because I am under absolutely no pressure to tell you to buy 1 piece of gear over another. I'd agree that lens prices are crazy expensive and I wish they would come down, but Canon lenses are just as much if not more. Canon's F2.8 wide angle is actually $100 more than Sony's which mostly makes sense since it's 1mm wider and comes with optical image stabilization but it's hard to say Sony is inflating prices if they priced it less than the competition. I'm also not sure why you would say influencer lobbying...I had to purchase these lenses myself. Sony didn't give them to me nor did they pay for this video...thankfully Soundstripe did so I can bring you this unbiassed video and still buy food for my kids haha
@focuspullingАй бұрын
@@learningcameras I bothered mentioning this to you because you're one of the most honest and accurate of the lot out there, in a position to tickle the monster - and I agree that Canon also _overcharges_ in a way that likewise damages their brand. When I refer to lobbying, I mean Sony luring "influencers" to launch events, flying them out to high-cost cities that are tourist destinations (basically, an "I've really made it big!" vacay for the rural/suburban types) - this is just as unethical as direct payment, with event budgets (and travel + hotel costs) in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. It's tacky and eye-rolling to most of the audience, if you ignore the bots and fanboys. And my gut tells me it'll end rather soon...
@learningcamerasАй бұрын
@@focuspulling Appreciate that. I agree Sony sends influencers to launch events at a significantly greater rate than any other manufacture I've seen. For the A1II launch event, there were hundreds which is crazy. It was discouraging to me and it makes it tough to make non-partisan content when there are 100 partisan creators also making content that is more likely to be seen and "appreciated" by Sony enthusiasts
