It’s the 3rd Party e-mount glass from Tamron, Sigma, Viltrox, Samyang and Tokina make Sony the hands down value leader. Compare the cost of a 3 or 4 lens package from Nikon or Canon against comparable e-mount options and the cost difference is staggering. What you can get for $3,000-$3500 from Tamron/Sigma for e-mount would cost upward of $8000 from Nikon or Canon. Buy the a7iii now, load up on e-mount glass and in 2021 the a7IV will leapfrog the R6/Z6 performance.

Bought a used A7ii a few months ago to decide whether I really wanted to go mirrorless. Fell in love with it immediately and after a couple weeks replaced the kit 28-70 with a Tamron 28-75. Followed that with Tamron 70-300 and 17-29. Super happy with this lens combo! Lightweight, inexpensive and amazing performance. All that said, I’m now getting ready to put the a7ii back on eBay and pick up an a7iii body. Wish I’d done that initially, but c’est la vie. After all of the amazing reviews and recent comparisons like this one, I have no question about my decision!

I have had my A7iii for over two years and it was and still is stunning, when released there was little on the market to compete, even today I see no reason to change. The regular firmware updates seem to keep the camera relevant. I also have a Sony A7Riv, which is also incredible, however, other than resolution, the A7iii is not far behind.

@yeetiesandwheaties
@yeetiesandwheaties 3 жыл бұрын
@@daudabappa932 you don't just pay for improvements - you pay for future-proofing. If you plan on holding onto the camera for a few years, it's worth it to invest in the newer features, faster processor, better color science, superior autofocus, better LCD screen, a screen that flips out, an improved EVF, an improved sensor, possibly better ergonomics. You get those benefits every single time you shoot. So if you shoot 10 times a month, and you hold onto the camera for at least three years, that's at least 360 photography sessions that you will enjoy those benefits. That's worth $1,000 to me.

Definitely worth waiting for the A7IV. Even if someone were looking to invest in their first full frame camera, I would recommend the A7C. Not that the A7III is bad, far from it. I hope you don’t have any problems with it once it is out of warranty because Sony has gone up a lot on repair parts. I have a A7iii that developed a problem with the shutter blades and was quoted a repair cost of $175.00 for the part and $200.00 labor to repair it at my local camera shop that is a repair center. Two days later they called me and said Sony went up on the price of the shutter assembly to $350.00 for the part. They told me that a Sony wants people to buy the latest models and don’t want to support older cameras. Sony no longer supports the A6500 which is not that old.

I’ve had my a7iii since October 2018. I’m still loving all the features about the camera, as I’m shooting both photo and video equally. The battery life is amazing. One thing I’d wish the a7iii had is a quick charge option. Other than that I do agree the screen is a bit lacklustre, but with a recent addition on the atomos ninja v, it makes up for it to a certain degree. That camera is such fantastic value now; Only slightly more than the A7III, less than half the price of an R5, and 42MP is the sweet spot for me. Price vs features vs output vs native glass selection... It's awesome. Video-wise, the Lumix S5 is a great camera, too. Definitely worth a mention. Every modern camera is fantastic with almost identical output though. I’d choose based on the native glass for my needs.

As a semi-pro, I'm probably going to sell out of canon and get this camera in a couple years. I'm just tired of canon playing marketing games with their models withholding features when Sony is just giving their best at way better prices. The difference for a budget conscious shooter today is canon playing games with their RF mount to keep things super expensive in their lens lineup whereas, you can get a Sony mount sigma 24-70 2.8 used for under $1k. The features in this camera are good enough for any skilled photographer/videographer to get pro photos and videos for the next foreseeable future unless there's some technological disruption like suddenly 6k displays and gigabit connectivity becomes a worldwide paradigm. A pro-tier kit for under $2400used (in q3 2022) for less than a new canon r6 body makes this just so much more appealing. Canon colors are great, but if you're shooting log and raw (and I really don't know why you'd spend this much money to shoot jpeg only) it's a non-issue.

So the good news is Canon isn't doing that as much these days. The Canon R7 for example didn't feel like features were pulled just because of marketing. Hopefully that trend continues. However, Canon still doesn't allow 3rd party RF lenses so that is a big problem if you don't need Canon's rather expensive glass.

I got away from canon due to their insane glass prices. I was shooting most stuff on Sony apsc cams (a6000,a6500,etc) and just this week sold them all and got me an a7iii with 7400 shutter counts for $1150 on eBay. I have tamron full frame lenses already, and they’re GORGEOUS on these cameras. Sony really does have some amazing technology, but they have their weird antics and drop odd products a lot also, Canon has stepped it up recently. Once they allow 3rd party lenses, I’m sure they’ll climb back on top of everything.

Couldn't justify the price of an R6. I bought an A7III with a Tamron 24-70 f2.8 lens brand new, and it was cheaper than the R6 body alone.. I use a Canon R5 at my workplace, and it's hard going to an A7III for personal/freelance work (Mainly the autofocus, I primarily do video work), but you just can't beat that value.

@Tzadeck
@Tzadeck 3 жыл бұрын
@@mordavian I'm happy with the A7III, yeah. I take a LOT of photos since I shoot some events, and in my own time do street and portraits, so for me the amount of time I spend editing RAW files is a huge issue. So that's why I didn't want the extra resolution of the A7RIII--it would fill up too much hard drive space and slow down editing. I considered going for Canon too... but the Sony has a lot of lens options that are cheaper right now, like good Sigma options. And when I was shooting DSLR I never felt like Canon was so kind to their customers. Plus, Sony still does have more leeway with their RAW files, which is important to me. I like being able to brighten the shadows significantly if I need to.

I had a6300 few years ago and I used it with the same lenses as a second cam. I was happy because it was small but I did not like ISO performance and I sold. I used it with Sigma mc-11. Focusing was not accurate and not so fast. If I return to Sony now I will face the same situation but I need some extra megapixels, ibis and ISO performance. R6 has wonderful specs but the biggest issue is its low mp value. My 5dm2 is already 21mp. I don't want to pay nearly $3000 and have 20 mp's although it has 4k60fps, 1dxm3 sensor and lots of other new features. I am really confused. I don't want to select eos r because of 30 mp either. Your video was really beneficial. I'm interested in either purchasing the Sony A7iii w/ an FE 28-70 mm F3.5-5.6 OSS Lens OR a Nikon Z6ii w/ a NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S. I will be primarily shooting photography but also dabbling in cinematography. I'm concerned (based on my research) that the Sony isn't as durable as the Nikon and won't be able to hold up or handle the elements as well. I live in the Northeast, so some of the best photos will take me to cold (and potentially wet) locations. If I'm overthinking it and the Nikon's rougher/grippier looking "weather proof" exterior is just a facade, please tell me. Likewise, I keep hearing videographers praise the Sony over the Nikon, but then hear a decent number of photographers brag about the colors of Nikon over Sony. I'm trying to ease back into photography, but want to invest in an ecosystem that I see myself using ten years down the line (really want to avoid buying glass and then switching to a competitor later). This will be my first time shooting w/ more than my phone in almost 6 years. I first learned on an old 35mm film Canon, and later my Canon EOS 550D. Looking forward to making the jump into mirrorless FF camera. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Awesome! So I'd agree that the Nikon Z6II is built more rugged (not that the A7III will have an issue...no clue) and in most areas, the Z6II does come out a little ahead of the A7III. Sony took video to a new level with the A7III hence why so many use and rave about it but since then Nikon has caught up with the A7III. In Sony's defense though, the A7IV is definitely an improvement to both the Z6II and A7III it's just that it also happens to be $500 more. I will also say that Sony's ecosystem is better than Nikon at the moment and probably will maintain that so keep that in mind. If you really want the best of the best for years to come, consider saving for the A7IV otherwise between the A7III and Z6II, the Nikon wins with video, colors, and ruggedness while the A7III wins with autofocus and ecosystem. Overall Image quality is pretty similar on both. Either camera will be a huge update from the 550D though!

As someone who shoots more video, and isn't quite invested in any system... It's a little tough. The A7C's awesome touch tracking features, smaller footprint for gimbal work is nice. But in the end it's still 8 bit colour. The GH5 though, has everything else except autofocus and low-light performance. R6 is totally out of the question. Anything that has a chance of overheating can't be used. Z6ii looks good, but not enough 3rd party lenses for budget options. S1 was a little appealing to me, but the L-mount is the absolute worst out of all full frame mounts currently and I'm not sure if I should even invest into it yet. hmmm........

So Nikon has come through with countless promised updates including RAW video output over HDMI on the original Z6 which no one thought was possible so I believe them. Also, most of the cameras that can record full frame 4k60 (canon R6/R6) actually look better in APSC mode because the cameras have to pixel bin/line skip in full frame mode where APSC mode has a full pixel readout. So absolutely true however I personally don't have much of an issue with that

@@learningcameras z6II is oversampling from 6k to 4k at 24fps just like the a7III, there is no way the crop mode would be better than the 6k oversampled 4k, this is not 40+mpx sensor. The Raw option in the original Z6 is heavily line skipped with a ton of moire, detail loss and false color, nice option but not impressive at all, actually much worse than the internall oversampled 4k option.
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 3 жыл бұрын
It's only 4K60 because most cameras can't oversample 4K60...it simply requires too much processing so they either line skip or crop. I'm contemplating buying the a7iii as I'm creating online courses, will be doing video logs, travel logs, and enjoy photography. I can pick it up for less than 2k second hand and I might have an interesting deal. Though, the a7c tends to be a few hundred more at this point, I'm not sure its worth the 300-400 more. I'd rather put that in a lense instead ...
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 3 жыл бұрын
So worth it is tough to define but I'll give you a few examples. Typically creating an online course might require filming for more than 30 minutes. It's horrible to be done with your filming only to find out that the camera stopped recording half way though because you went over the 30 minute limit the A7III had. Also, having a flip screen allows you to identify some potential issues like non recording or potentially out of focus problems. The A7c does have eye AF during video which the A7III doesn't have which could come in handy. Stuff like that! Non of them are quality upgrades but it certainly could help with online courses and vlogs

Crazy how most of the cons are unrelated to what your clients will see. I.e. color straight out of the camera, backside screen... Having a shitty touch screen is also not a deal-breaker at all, takes a week to get used to. The only 2 things that I would like to have is 4k60, although 4k30 will get most of the job done. 1080/120p is a great added bonus too for those who love slow-mo. And I can't do anything while loading pictures into the card. Despite all of those negatives, the af, battery life, dynamic range, weight, duo card, weather sealing / build quality (had mine freeze in ice while shooting 8+ hours in the Canadian winter all the time), button layout, built-in intervalometer, and much more make this still one of the best cameras in the market to this day
