This is so disgusting and annoying to me. I hold this nation at a high esteem but the downturn of events here has made me so sad. I left an even poorer clime to this blessed land but I can see how things are devolving here. Few weeks ago, I saw a young girl with her baby in a pram walk into a major shop and steal some food off the shelf. While leaving, she looked at me and I knew what happened, I was so traumatised by that. As a man, things like that traumatise me especially when little babies(angels) are involved. For her to have walked into the shop that late at night to steal broke me. The UK can do better than this. The infrastructure in Sctoland is going down so quickly and isn't replaced at the same pace of decline.

I read the many comments! I'm Hungarian. Since I was a high school student (I majored in English and Russian, at that time Russian was a compulsory language, but it was okay because it was easy and I graduated from it), but I have been angloman throughout my life. I never wanted to see Paris, I wanted England! Then I saw it, drove in and loved it! Rural England is still dear to my heart. All my life (because of science) I wrote and worked in English and I can't even read Russian, although I have no problem with the Russian language, I just can't practice it. Take care of your beautiful England and your beautiful cities! God bless you!

I can see Jaywick was a nice break away from London back in the day, but when times get hard, the usual thing to do, is sell the holiday home to keep you're main home. Moving from bricks n mortar to a place not supposed to be for full time living is a false economy, especially when there are very few jobs nearby. Now those few jobs can only be found even further away.
@jakestilson1947
@jakestilson1947 7 ай бұрын
It wqs not started as a holiday place. Small plots of land were advertised just after WW1. The buyers , mainly from London flocked to buy them and built houses shacks -call them what you will- themselves. Mostly frame buildings. Bricks came later. Since then it did improve for years but has now become what it is. In the main the people are no better or worse than folks anywhere BUT since the know the area and get fed up with people knocking Jaywick.p lots are freehold, so many to the acre, and owned individually it is probably some of the most expensive development land in the county. even fi the owners would consider selling. After all it is their family homes and not all would want to leave.. Not a local but I knew the area well and get fed up with people knocking Jaywick.

Thanks for your comment. One question, Where would you go if you were to die today? Seek the Lord and saviour Jesus Christ before it's too late. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Hell is real and Heaven is also real. You don't want to spend an eternity in Hell torment without God. The only way to escape Hell is to follow Jesus Christ our Lord and saviour. Study the KJV Bible to know more and pray and seek until you find Jesus. Don't delay tomorrow might be too late. You are not promised even the next minute. Do it now

I go there on a regular basis and have family living there. To lump GY as one whole deprived area is absolute nonsense. I was there 2 weeks ago, spent a whole week in a campsite near the front, and had an absolute wonderful time, walked around the different areas with much fascinating history, visited a couple of museums and galleries, ate in several decent eateries, rowed on the boating lake, had top quality coffee sitting enjoying the restored Venetian Gardens. The working age members of my family there are in work from ordinary jobs to high level ones. Some relatives receive great GP and hospital services. One problem is for them to get hold of decent trades people to do work, but as for everything else made out as an almost over whelming negative, basically it’s cods wallop. Yes there are issues, a high level of benefits claimed, obvious people with addiction issues, a cross section of “interesting” examples of the human race, but overall I would have no issues living there.

I lived in Jaywick in the mid 60s and it was a great place to live. All those small roads with the prefabricated houses were always spotless and it wasn't unusual to walk down the roads and see people painting the outsides of their home or the fences. I remember too, the gardens always looked pretty. The people who lived I. Them would offer us cold drinks on hot days. We lived in Golf Green Road very close to sea front and my brother and I would walk up to the amusement arcades and help out on the bingo. The whole place, during summer, was packed, alive and very vibrant and, as a young lad, was an exciting place to live. Sadly we only stayed a couple of years before we moved. The council attempted to revamp the John Frost Square some years back but shop and business exodus has continued on the high street with no let up. Shop dereliction and run down streets with crumbling Edwardian town houses goes on. I am surprised Port Talbot S Wales is not on your list, it's only purpose is the local steelworks and should be way up the list, Bridgend and Neath are good candidates too. @@daneelolivaw602 Well, the idea of such aod was to help peoples who were much worse off than our poorest areas, not just to help them, but us too, by preventing their radicalisation whereby they become aa threat and enemy of the West. In truth, the real enemy is the casino-capitalisation of the West, which put me out of a job, and destroyed the communities near me, and has created haves and have nots all around the globe. And the haves are becoming monstrously powerful and rich, and laughing at the rest of us, or could not give two hoots, so long as they are alright. It became much, much worse after Thatcher, who handed the rich our infrastructures and silverware, so hard to see a way back now. I always said it would lead to WW3 between East and West, then anarchy would break out in the West too. I still think that this is how it all ends. Will we ever have a good society? After all the traumas that we face, yes, for the few left. A Kingdom of God, when the true King will appear, and lead men out of the wilderness, and unto the spiritual heights, and perfect bliss. There is. This is my argument when they go on about how poor people are in the UK. We have a very very generous benefits system over here, so generous in fact that my single parent sister who worked 15hrs a week in a shop could afford botox, fillers, had a clothing allowance of £400pm & £100pw for socialising. This was after her mortgage & bill payments plus her dental care & prescriptions were free. I’ve been to America, & I’ve seen the poverty. I couldn’t believe that in a country so wealthy people were living in conditions akin to being in a 3rd world country. However with the cost of living currently it’s those NOT on benefits who are suffering. Those on benefits get taken care of generally.
@joolsn5823
@joolsn5823 2 жыл бұрын
I call BS! There is no such 'clothing allowance' or similar paid to anyone under the UK welfare benefits system. Mortgages are not paid, bills (ultilities, fuel etc) are also not paid for claimants. Bills must be met by the claimant from their welfare allowance from the DWP. Rent and healthcare are (mostly) covered for some claimants. I was a benefits advisor for a charity. Our benefits system is not 'very, very' generous but it is civilised for the most part and avoids people having to literally beg in the street for food. Many European countries have similar or more generous systems. Either your single parent sister had another (very intimate?) source of extra income or you are just talking utter bollocks!

@@Redsleather Glad to say I never voted Tory or for Brexit. Quite why Cornwall now votes Tory, though LibDem are often a close second, is complex, partly the huge number of wealthy English blows in, though I think it has more to do with the view that Labour is seen as the party of urban woke metro areas. Labour is not seen as representing more rural and small town areas, in fact Labour is seen as hating the indigenous population. So that leaves Tory voting as the main option, despite us having a local party like Mebyon Kernow, who do have some council seats.

@@kernowforester811 yes sorry, I should have said not everyone in Cornwall wanted the Tories or Brexit, but I find it shocking the south-west turned so quickly into a Conservative heartland, swallowed the Brexit lies having received so much EU funding, and now the fishermen and farmers admit they were lied to. It’s interesting Exeter always bucks the trend though. I’m hoping the tide turns and the LibDems will fight for votes in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset and Labour will encourage people (especially in marginals) across the south-west to vote LibDem if it can defeat a Conservative

@@Redsleather That's fine, I understand that. As said, why the SW votes enmasse for the Tories now (bit like Turkeys voting for Xmas perhaps) is complex, but has little to do with financial affluence. The alternatives are not perceived as representing the interests of the region. We have a very high percentage of self employed, who will tend to vote for lower taxes etc (in theory Tories enact lower taxes), and the farming community view the Tories as their natural reps. Us normies who live in villages and small towns may see things differently, but there is concern that both LidDems and Labour do not represent our concerns or needs. After years as a Labour Party member (left in 2018), we will have to see major change in the alternatives to change the voting pattern change I am afraid. We may even see a party like Reform UK make gains? The biggest support for the Tories is how bad the opposition are.

My husband and I went to the funeral, and we were shocked at the place (we were living in Devon at the time). It was so run down and shabby in general. So many homes there which have been cobbled together which bits and pieces. No planning permissions required. Some started out as holiday chalets and people just started building on to them to make them bigger and it seems the council didn't care at all. A lot of them were falling apart. We had to stay in the area overnight and honestly there was not one decent B&B or hotel to be had. It was just awful. It's yet another load of cobblers article, agreed, Jaywick is terrible, but the other nine seemingly random entries? No, I strongly disagree. The vague statistics mentioned do not portray an accurate description. There are more deprived areas in the UK

Glasgow was voted one of the world's friendliest cities by Rough Guides in 2019 and took the number one spot in 2021. It is a warm and welcoming city with a strong community vibe thanks to its friendly and outgoing natives, or 'Weegies”, and its transport links are also second to none.

Jaywick was more built as a holiday park. think more like Pontins. ( which is a dump in itself). It seems to be more a place outside of London to get to the sea side. I don't think it was ever designed to be a place to live 365 days a year. but more fora week or weekend get away. seeing the videos from there many houses and streets have just had rubbish dumped everywhere instead of having it took away. the streets are narrow and now looked after. yet to get a house there is still 40k. there are too many people who will not step up and try to make the place cleaner so if falls instead and look worse every year

@@patricksmith4424 Greater London Council in the 1980s dumped their elderly poor in the town of Eastbourne, which is very hilly (my sister studied there). Not surprisingly, the sick elderly didn’t last long. Recently the London Borough of Redbridge dumped their unemployed in Canterbury, a place with no jobs for them, on what had been a military barracks site.

Jaywick has actually got slightly better. That notorious street used to sum up the town? It's had a total makeover and looks completely different now. They are trying hard.

Isle of Sheppey - I live here, and have to say your report is so wrong, yes there are places that are run down, but also a lot of very, very rich people live here as well. The problem is that Swale Council could not care less frankly, our little Island has had no real investment, just money grabbing profiteers who are hoping to build as many houses as possible without investing in new schools, doctors, actually any decent infrastructure at all. The Island gets choked by excessive traffic everyday, even before all the daytrippers flood onto our blue flag beaches, and now they are proposing a cement factory with constant lorries on and off the island. Our beautiful Island with nature reserves and beaches is fast becoming a living hell, but it is still a great place to live and your derogatory assumptions are wrong, it was only last month that Sheerness was actually in the top 10 places to move to! To summarise, we are no different to any other area, we have good, and we have bad areas, but as a whole its a great Island with friendly people!

My take on the Isle of Sheppey is locals that have to work have to either travel off the island for work or have a local business or work in one of the very few remaining large establishments. But mostly to me it seems to have become a retirement area for quite a few. That does not necessarily make it a poor area but it does lack enough amenities and can be difficult to live there if you do not own a car.

Things don't have to crumble immediately, we are all watching the UK decline. I'm not British but I live here and adore it but all the signs are there, showing that things are getting worse. You can also see the government making terrible decisions that will destroy this nation quicker than expected. There's got to be some aggressive economic boom for things not to get worse. The UK must not decline to the status of my home nation. Praying for the best of the queen's land.

Jaywick was built as a holiday village estate. The bungalows were all very flimsy to start with. Over time people did buy properties there. Either as holiday homes which they let out when not using them themselves, or else to retire to. There was never much of a permanent community, and what there was dwindled in the winter months. Over time people started going abroad for their fortnight in the summer sun, to keep rental income going the properties were used to house the homeless (some of whom most people would not want as neighbours) and so began it's decline.
