wow, I had almost the same experience with piano :oD first teacher was very kind and encouraging, my second teacher was strict, always found something wrong in my playing, i had to be able to play everything by heart, with eyes closed or looking from window, slow, fast.... i was almost crying at the lessons, but my playing improved soooo much, and when a concert came, she always told me I played beautifully and brought me chocolate ♥

Hehe that does sound quite similar! 😃 It’s interesting that strict can actually be the most kind in the end.

hi Christy I wanted to say thank you for advice you gave in another video to do something 10 right times. That really helped me master my pieces for my harp exam. At first it took ages to play a piece 10 times correctly all the way through, but eventually I got to the point where one after another, each playing was perfect. As a result I got a distinction in my harp exam. Thank you so much and keep up the great videos

your lessons are fantastic. I am however confused when playing a piece how do I know which fingers to use on each note, if it isn't labelled on the music? .
@LearningtheHarp
@LearningtheHarp 4 жыл бұрын
Hi there! I would recommend in the beginning that you stick to playing from music where the fingering is written in, and where you know that the composer / arranger makes good fingering choices. This is especially the case in method books such as Pamela Bruner’s “Learn to Play the Harp Beautifully” book 1. And Anne Crosby Gaudet’s sheet music... or mine! 😁 After you have lots of experience that way, then you will start to be able to make your own fingering choices 👌🏻

Do you mean video lessons where I teach those songs? 😃 Are you talking about the version for singing and harp, or just harp on its own?

Im so disappointed, Im a brand new beginner with no music background and don't know where to start. I purchased Silvia Woods CD Teach Yourself to play the folk harp but she does not explain exactly on what cords we should place our fingers and im totally lost. I want to find a good tutorial on learning the harp. Im not ready for a teacher but maybe a cd. I love the way you teach.

Hi Ingrid, so sorry to hear about your disappointment! I wish I had an online course already made and ready for you. I don’t... yet! But I do have a beginner series of videos coming out next week, which will take you from the absolute beginning of playing (your first “lesson”) up until your first real piece with two fingers in each hand. Hang in there, the videos will be available next week Thursday at 3pm GMT!
