Welsh or cymraeg as it’s known colloquially is another beautiful Celtic language it’s simply in another group there are two distinct groups goidelic which includes Irish , gaidhlig ( Scottish Gaelic ) and Manx Gaelic and the other is Brythonic and this is where welsh fits into the other two in that group are Cornish ( from Cornwall ) and Breton .if you’re interested there’s a channel made by a welsh guy called Gareth called welsh shark or something similar been a while since I watched . Just be aware it’s a tough language to learn as it’s got lots of mutation in verbs and words and double consonants which are aspirated but like any language once you understand the fundamental grammar rules and get them down then you’re on your way .

Came looking for how to say Congratulations in Irish and this video came up. Even though it wasn’t included I really enjoyed the video. I lived in Ireland for 8 years but didn’t learn much Irish, the only thing I remember is “Is maith liom é” (I like it) and “Cen tam é?” (What time is it?”. The best Irish word I learnt though - which I don’t know if it’s really used - is “asclán” which means the amount of stuff you can carry under an arm. Really useful when bringing the messages home from the shop - “Do you need help unloading anything?” “Bah sure it’s only one asclán”

I know that I will be speaking good Gaelge (spelling correct?) in good time. Thanks Dane!! Your videos really help a lot. Writing Gaelic will be another task I take on, once I can get the letters and word combinations down. I have a notebook started with the various letters and combos written for sounds and I know eventually I will get them into written words and sentences. Keep up the great work!!--Tess

Tá sé seo uamhnach. Is é seo an ceacht is cuimsithí a mhúin tú go dtí seo! This is awesome. It's the most comprehensive lesson youve taught so far! ...Irish learners keep in mind that Dane's pronunciation is in HIS dialect. (A version of the Munster dialect, I guess) It might be useful for one to research Connacht and Ulster dialects and An Caighdeán Oifigiúil as well when learning Irish.

The way the Jewish community recreated Hebrew from scratch starts with their reciting Torah and the Homesh Megillot in Hebrew every year. Most of Torah is stories. Most of the Homesh is stories. Romance stories like in Ruth and Song of Songs, Tragedies include Esther, Lamentations, and Ecclesiastes. They were read at the story level. You heard them pronounced as you imagined them being carried into the present time. They were not meant to convert people to their faith, just keep the faith, the community, and the language alive. So, why are no fluent speakers reading the Bible or basic Irish stories and posting them on KZbin. Teach us the stories in English and then teach them to us in Gaelic. It would be fun to here and easier to learn the words.

Hi Dane! I am Syd. My grandmother spoke Irish. I want to also. For 18 months I have been waiting for my documents from the US and Ireland to be reviewed by the FBR offices north of Dublin. I hope to travel with my wife to Ireland in 2023. My grandmother was from Kinvara, Galway. My Great Aunt lived in Sligo. I was so saddened to hear that Ireland legalized abortion in late 2017. I was born Catholic.

Go raibh maith agat a chara. I’m really enjoying your lessons. I only wish you were an Ulsterman......lol. Hard to get my head around the difference in pronunciation especially words like maith and raibh. We say 'moy' and 'ro' as opposed to 'ma' and 'riv'. Ah well....with three different dialects it just makes Gaeilge more special. Really love that the videos are so short and full of really useful words and phrases. It means I can watch one or two at a time and try and get something from them. Brilliant stuff and one the best on the net. My other favourite is being a friend of mine from Strabane. You should check him out. Look for Sean Mór on KZbin. You’ll enjoy if you can follow the Tyrone accent....lol
