Yes, there are significant reading assignments that must be completed for the first day’s class. For my tax course, students had about 50 pages they had to read for that first day-this is typical in most law courses.

What happend if a accredited law school loses it,s accreditation while a law student is in the middle of completing their law school education at an institution this happens to?

Generally, the ABA allows a law school to complete the education for the current students.

Before law school, I used to think that the scene where the teacher assigned work before the first day of classes was an exaggeration. Now as a 1L I'm thinking, "that's ALL they had to do? That's nothing!"

When I was in high school and college, I struggled because I had a then undiagnosed learning disability. Specifically, I had all three forms of dyslexia; Classic dyslexia, which is the most common, dyscalcula, which effects numbers and symbols, and audible dyslexia, which causes spoken instruction to be confused. While this hurt my academic record, when I was diagnosed with dyslexia, I also learned I had an I.Q. of 140. I intend to take the LSAT I'm December and studying like mad. I am confident in my ability to score high. But even if I do well, I'll have to explain my low G.P.A. in college. Do you have any suggestions as to how I might be able to overcome this obstacle upon application? I don't mind explaining, but I don't want to make my application essay a sob story, either. Thank you for any advice.

You explain it as simply as you can. Many applicants have similar stories. Also, mention what you are doing today to help you succeed. What they don’t want is for you to flunk out. You need to understand that it takes someone without those disabilities 60 hours a week or more to succeed.

Do you think it’s odd to go to a T14 law school at 30 years old, as a mother of 2? I’m almost positive with my GPA and LSAT (4.0 and 175) I can get into a T14 school. However I’d be moving across the country for any of them. And I would almost certainly be the oldest law student at Harvard lol I think I’ve internalized this idea that I can go to law school as a non traditional student but I can’t go to a good school because non traditional students very rarely go to highly ranked schools.

I attended a T-14 and there were several students 30+, including one woman in her 50’s. With children, you need to think about logistics more than others. But I’ve taught many single moms with one or more small children.

Talk to a few lawyers and ask them what their typical day looks like. In other words, find out what real lawyers do. By the way, few lawyers ever go into a courtroom.

If a foreign student (e.g. Pakistan) gets an opportunity at a good law school at US, is he/she able to acquire job easily too? I am just asking based on companies ease policy maybe. The problem is getting a work visa. There is a huge surplus of US lawyers and any firm considering it would have to apply to get a visa for the future employee. I suppose that a top graduate from Harvard or Yale could manage this, but many others would not.

Do you think typically Psychology is a good major for law? It is something that genuinely interests me and I would love to major in it however, being prepared and doing well in law school is the number 1 priority to me. Im curios if in your experience students do well that majored in Psychology.

You need to consider a major that will help you earn top grades, and if you enjoy psychology then go with it. Then take elective courses that have significant writing components. Or philosophy electives. Most college programs have at least 10 elective courses, so use those electives wisely.

I always wondered--did Brooke really need a high profile, big time lawyer in a case where there was no physical evidence and the eyewitness was someone with motive of her own? It just doesn't feel like prosecution had a particularly strong case, and a slightly competent public defender could have done the job. Or even that that the DA might not even press charges with evidence that thin in the first place, especially given the likely press coverage in the case.

Hello Mr Beau, I'm a Sophomore student who is really struggling with my future. I'm aiming on becoming a lawyer (either criminal law or family law), I'm a student who lives in Palestine but was born in Florida. my question is, would you recommend me on becoming a lawyer? Most of the people surrounding me didn't approve nor liked the idea, I'm also struggling on which law school I should attend, and which Major I should get into. I have lots of questions I would like to ask a professional lawyer but this is my main question.

No one can answer this question for you-what you plan to do for your entire life is very personal. Keep asking questions and find out what lawyers do, not what you think they do. Lawyers sit behind desks most of the day, and very few ever go to court.

Any major is good for law school if you work hard and learn the skills needed to succeed. That being said, political science majors don’t, overall, do as well on the LSAT exam. But again, there are plenty of outliers who do great.

You apply for an LLM program. They will look at your LLB grades and will likely want a TOEFL score to verify your English skills. Also, law schools generally want proof that you have enough money to cover tuition and living expenses.

Generally yes. But when I searched for real Harvard law graduate pictures, I found many with the mortar board. More recently, I think they’ve switched to the tam.
