And for those who have heard some other people say "Linux isn't stable and it requires a lot of maintenance", don't believe that. A Linux distribution (especially these mainstream ones like Ubuntu) is as stable as it gets when you don't phuk with it. Linux gives the user the choice to make changes on the root level and if you don't know what you're doing or are just copying and pasting commands off of a random article on the internet, you're going to break things. I love Linux.

@@vogonp4287 Mine did. Ubuntu 12 was stable, became progressively less stable through 16, 18 and for now 22.04. Now I can't download updates which is apparently quite common. So as a Windows user I'm in familiar territory which is what I was trying to get away from in the first place. And I have to learn a whole new language to try to fix the mess. And because the os is not as common as Windows, Google is not a friend as much as it's a casual acquaintance lol

Thanks for the video. One thing I think is worth mentionng is the clock. Windows generally expects the system (hardware) clock to be set to local time, whereas most Linux distributions set the system clock to UTC or GMT. In a dual-boot scenario, without reconfiguring one or the other OS, the clock will be wrong in one of them unless each OS automarically synchronizes the system clock, and even then it become IMO a battle between the two OS' and could lead to timestamp confusion.
@johng.49594 жыл бұрын
Exactly!!! The last time I dual booted I actually installed Mint with a dual boot configuration. My clocks were always screwed up!! I believe there is a workaround for this but I'm not sure if it's a permanent one.??
@larrywilliams80104 жыл бұрын
@@johng.4959 it should be easier to configure Linux to set the system clock to local than it is to tell Windows to set it to UTC.

It truly makes the difference for us beginners and for us beginners that desire to aquire the knowledge. I want to learn not just get it done. Please keep it detailed at every step! Oh yes...EVERY step is important. Often times a step is just assumed coz to u it is so universal/usual. But 4 us it is important. I c how that may happen 4 those of u that know alot. Thx.

Thanks for this video Jay. It puts a lot in perspective on how to install ubuntu on our windows PC. I have an issue while installing though. The installation went fine when I set up dual boot on a dell vostro 14. It works perfectly fine. But, on my Lenovo Z5070, when I proceed to install 'Dual-booting Ubuntu with Windows 10' during the live session installation, I notice that i the next screen to split the existing partition between windows and Ubuntu, the installer does not show my main partiton of 1 TB hard disk which has about 700 GB free space. Instead, the installer seem to be showing only the windows recovery partition (which appears D drive in windows) of about 20GB. I never faced this issue on Dell which had windows 10 too. Any leas on how do I tackle this issue?
