Why are there two alternative words for avocado? Is one used more than the other? Is it dependent on country? Confused about strawberry. Which do I use? Fresa or frutilla or is it like avocado either or?
@Nimochikaua4 ай бұрын
@@lisanidog8178 Here in Mexico we say fresa and aguante, it depends on the country, in south America many countries says palta, in Argentina says frutilla, greetings, I'm learning English
@LearnSpanishWorld4 ай бұрын
The differences between words like palta (used in Chile, Argentina, and parts of South America) and aguacate (used in Mexico, Central America, and Spain) or frutilla (in Argentina, Uruguay, and parts of Chile) and fresa (in Mexico, Spain, and most other Spanish-speaking countries) stem from regional vocabulary variations in the Spanish language. These variations often arise due to indigenous influences, historical trade, or local preferences. For example: Palta comes from the Quechua language, which was spoken by the Incas, while aguacate comes from the Nahuatl word āhuacatl, the language of the Aztecs. Frutilla is more commonly used in the southern regions of South America, whereas fresa is the term used in Spain and most other Spanish-speaking countries. These regional differences are similar to how in English, certain words change depending on the country: Truck in the U.S. is lorry in the U.K. Elevator in the U.S. is lift in the U.K. Chips in the U.S. are crisps in the U.K., whereas chips in the U.K. refer to what Americans call fries. Both languages showcase how regional linguistic preferences develop over time, reflecting cultural, historical, and geographical distinctions.
