Thanks for the series following the changing seasonal constellations. Leo and Cancer have started appearing in the early evening sky, so this video was perfect and helpful.

Sometimes the "head" of the Hydra is obvious enough (because the pattern is fairly distinct) that you can use that. Go "up" from it until you get to the Beehive.

This constellation its acually very faint in night sky, it is the most hardest constellation to find 😂 just look at between Gemini and Leo, the beehive cluster can showing us this constellation🌌

How people make out these shapes in this mess of stars is beyond me. Live in FL, can only see Orion and the big dipper very clearly

I'm in Florida as well, if you don't already have Stellarium as an app, it will help tremendously to show you the constellations, I've seen several of the ones Janine teaches about. Clear Skies.

Do you know how it became a constellation if the stars are so dim? I'm not sure how people picked out which stars to use for mapping.
@learnthesky2 жыл бұрын
Cancer is an ancient constellation that dates all the way back to ancient Mesopotamia. At that time, I imagine the stars stood out so much more because there was very little light pollution. Plus the stars were a way to track the seasons and mark time, and often there were stories tied to the stars to the information about them could be passed down. If you are in a dark area, the stars for this can definitely be pointed out if you know where to look. How stars were picked out and used for mapping has a long, long history, and it varies upon culture and time. So that is a question I would need many videos to explain. I hope this helps.

Not to toot my own horn but, I have ALWAYS been into starts and I have no idea why. I’ve always been able to find every other Consolation but mine ( Which is Cancer ). Any who, when she was asking if we could find the star clusters I knew EXACTLY where to look.

To see Cancer I have to drive out of Las Cruces, NM and take an old ranch road up to Bortles 2 skies. In the city I cannot see any of it at all. Shoot, I cannot see any of Ursa Minor except Polaris and even it is easy to lose. Light pollution is a big deal.

I'll just image it's in the middle o Gemini and Leo xD too dimmed constellation.
