'Least Wanted People - The Roma Gypsies' investigates the struggle for Roma people to integrate into the Romanian society. Being Roma has the worst social stigma in Romania and therefore many Roma's do not officially say they are Roma.

As an Indian I feel disappointed to see descendent from my country being treated ill in this age and time, so much for the so called western and Christian values. India has a long history of accepting people of every faith with open arms and not discriminating, be it the early muslims, the jews the zorastrians and many more. Its a shame.

I was a volunteer teacher to Roma children near Prague for five years, but had to leave because of the pandemic. These children aren't allowed in the regular Czech schools so they are not educated nor learn trades, thus can't get decent jobs as adults. It is an endless circle of defeat. Because of this bad treatment, they do not trust the gadja, including doctors, and really don't want to integrate. My children were quick to learn and loving, beautiful, generous and fun. I miss them terribly even now and wish I could go back. I will try.

I live here in the USA and have lived with a gypsy from Romania who was adopted by an American couple. He is now in his late twenties and all he thinks about from the time he wakes up in the morning to when he goes to sleep and probably while he is sleeping is how to lie, cheat, and steal. I am very sorry to say this but he has a gypsy heart and the only thing he is interested in is how to get over on people. We had to call the police on him multiple times because he would get frustrated and violent when attempting to conform to some sort of ordered purpose. The only thing he is interested in is disorder & chaos. He loves this. He also loves working with old metal, specifically, collecting old metal and junk. This is his specialty. His family were very well situated in a lovely home in an upscale home in Westchester County, New York. His father would buy him all sorts of things as a child and he would just destroy them. When his father began buying him cars he would just set about tearing the car apart until it was just a heap of junk. He can be really a good person, at times, like helping people, but when he resorts to his instincts, his gypsy instincts, forget it, you don't want to be anywhere near him. He lives with his girlfriend now and his father supports him.

It's a very sad reality everywhere in Eastern Europe, not just Romania. Similar images of these kind of village can be found in many places. It's very unfortunate. I know Roma people quite well. I grew up in South East Romania where here most of them live. Nobody is born stupid or a thief. My mom is a French teacher and it warms her heart when people are passionate about the subject she is teaching. Some of them are Roma. I see her struggling sometimes because it is very difficult to keep these children involved with school if the home environment says otherwise. Very common to have them dropping school when they are 14-15 years old (mostly girls). The system let them down and it is very tough to change mentalities only by attending classes. Education is given both in schools and at home.

Their culture is basically to not integrate into other societies. The few who have jobs or kids who go to school are the absolute minority (and even if they want to integrate, their families will make it difficult.). So what is there to like about this lawless culture?
@rachelledjordjevic
@rachelledjordjevic 2 жыл бұрын
That isn't our culture at all, but it's what a lot of us had to do in order to survive a near millenia of repeated genocides and slavery. Our history has been silenced, because it's easier to call us dirty thieves, when in reality, a lot of us fought to get housing and are working alongside you in silence. 2/3 of us were killed during the Holocaust, thus worsening the trauma and living conditions of our people and leading thievery to increase amongst the community. Not all of us do that, but that's the consequences of being ostracized and having no access to an equal opportunity to a better life like others do. Sadly, a lot of our cultures got lost in the process, and it is now a mix of everywhere we've ever been, and what people take and leave as generations come and go. What has stayed is community, art, creativity, and in some cases, spirituality. To call it a lawless culture isn't false, but the blame is in both camps, and the balance weighs down in yours. A little more compassion and research might do us all good. Roma are still people, just as you are.

@Romanian presenter Racist, truly representing the best of Romanians. Your country is literally known for its hate towards Romani, and that says a lot because Europe in general is awful to Romani people. I say that really sadly as a European. Considering your country has a history of quite literally enslaving the Romani and mistreating them, you should examine your biases. Romanian people shouldn’t be on a high horse about how awful you treat Romani people. Generations of mistreatment and poverty, government policies and social stigmas have lead to this. This treatment of people, is disgusting. Don’t be fucking proud of it. The same policies that essentially keep Romani people in this cycle of generational poverty are the same reasons you have these negative stereotypes of them.

If you can't get a job but need to feed a family theft seems like the only way. But then you reinforce the stereotypes of your community, making it even more difficult for others in the same community to get a job, hence more resort to criminality. Basically they're stuck in this feedback loop of self fulfilling prophecies. If Roma have to prove they are Roma in order to get benefits but can’t, what does that mean? Maybe I misunderstood but I have a feeling that many, many more Romanians are actually Roma but would never like to admit it and that’s fine with me. I’ve always been fascinated with them and have always wanted Roma friends but unfortunately, there is both a language and cultural barrier.
@daniellac.7588

It means they don't benefit of anything, which is stupid because a simple ancestral DNA test can prove it. And yes, many Roma people in the Balkans (not just Romania) refuse to admit that they are Roma. Speaking from a Serbian pov, I'd say those who moved out of Romania adapted and mingled more with the native population somehow because discrimination wasn't as bad as it was in Romania. But still, for instance, I'm French (born and raised) but I'm also a Serbian Vlach (another minority) with Roma ancestors as well. When I started asking about our roots, a few people like my uncle admits that we were woodworking roma but the great majority, like my dad, won't admit to it, as if it was a shameful secret... Thankfully I'm from that generation who embraces it. When I started going to Serbia I could see the discrimination towards Roma and Vlach... So I just refused to learn Serbian and focused on speaking the native language that I knew (vlach) and used English as well. It kinda shifted things a bit in my community. I'm trying to change things my own way, attempting research on my own but it's not easy.

I live in Turkey. Turkey is a melting pot. I'm sorry, But we couldn't melt Romani people. My neighbor is an Albanian descent. She can still speak Albanian. My colleagues are of Circassian, Bosnian and Laz descent. They are all well integrated. For god's sake, we even have African Turks. I had a black army body. Serhat was his name. He was responsible for the guns. Good guy. We don't care. Im half Kurd. Turkey melts everybody. But Romani people. Nope. We couldn't do it. I remember one village collected money to send Romani kids to school. Their parent didn't allow it. Because kids have to work to feed the family. Romani people, most of the time, don't adapt. You finally adapted to Romani people and let it go :):) I traveled to many cities. Everything is different. Romani people are the same :) But what are you gonna do? We accept them as they are. We don't hate them. But We are just careful around them:):) But some of them escape from that cycle and join the society.

I'm trying to understand so they went over there as slaves and now y'all find a problem with them and you want to integrate them I'm starting to see some familiar things here they tried to integrate not only the blacks but also the indigenous people really I think they should be kept separate like they do on reservations because they have a proud background you have to listen to what you're saying they're not going to change because they don't want to change their ways and they shouldn't have to change their ways to please anyone frankly ... It's not their fault they were brought over there as slaves so instead of integrating them why don't you help them find an area where they can live peacefully.... Trust me when I say they're set in their ways and they ain't going nowhere... It's sad as hell that in this day and age people people are still hating on other people for their values their morals their ethics and religion are different than what you were raised.... I'm not understanding are you trying to wipe the Roma out or? I would think embrace your fellow brother n sister ask them what do you need from us come up with a better solution then integration... And hell I would want to go see the Roma people.... I find their culture pretty interesting perhaps if they live in the slums make a better place for them so that way they can show their beautiful people in a better light... And even if they are travelers that's fine there should be more than one place of settlement even if it's just temporary settlement.... But yes people do want to see the Roma people... Cuz because they're a part of History over there too and they shouldn't be undervalued and unwanted... Because trust me they didn't want to be slaves over there in the first place just saying

When Roma Gypsies first came to Europe in Greece,(this days Turkey) they were known as "Egyptians" due to their "says" or stories that claimed that they came from Little Egypt and where originally slaves of the Egyptian Pharaohs. We called us Roman Egyptians ,becose EGYPT was part of Roman empire ,ROMAN REPUBLIC . In Greece the called us ROMANO GITANOS- ROMAN EGYPTIAN- ROMA GYPSY ....How did Egypt become Roman? . The rich lands of Egypt became the property of Rome ,Roman republic ,after the death of Cleopatra VII in 30 BCE, which spelled the end of the Ptolemaic dynasty that had ruled Egypt since the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BCE. After the murder of Gaius Julius Caesar in 44 BCE, the Roman Republic was left in turmoil. (32-30 BC) was the last civil war of the Roman Republic, fought between Mark Antony (assisted by Cleopatra and by extension Ptolemaic Egypt) and Octavian. In 32 BC, Octavian convinced the Roman Senate to declare war on the Egyptian queen Cleopatra. after the end of Slavery in EGYPT , soon started first century we become follow jesus CHIST .christianity was the only religion we had ,( NO budha ,or hinduizm. or other Gods as KRISHNA ) !!!

The Roma people need education & training to get good jobs. Encourage the young to take education seriously. As for adults, they can be trained to be tradesmen (motor mechanic, plumber, bricklayer etc). Also the successful Roma people should also help those Roma people who are less fortunate or successful.
