I don’t comment on these things much, but I truly appreciate you taking time to share and inspire others. I especially liked your old videos with all the homemade tools. You can’t hold back a fella with a little skill and a lot of try. Metal work is truly the king of all trades.

Hi Bruce great to see you in the shop working. I must say i still find it amusing that I come in out of the heat and end up watching a fella inside staying out of the cold. It was 42 celcius here yesterday and predicted to be hotter today maybe 43 or 109 fahrenheit what a world we live in. Thanks for the video always enjoy them.

Thanks for the video, but 2 things I would have liked you to include: how you spliced the lace on the back and the flattening when done with the hammer.

Mr Cheaney, I've looked everywhere for good , Buck Stitch Awl like you showed.. even on antique, Ebay. But, I ordered a Head Knife and Sewing Awl, from a family in Ukraine [ of all places, !! Lol ] , very nice people.. anyway the Awl they sent me is fantastic heirloom quality tool. It looks to be a lacing or Sewing Fid.. what I was wondering, past the sharp point, it is in diamond shape.. do you think I can file/ grind/ sand, to make a decent Buck Stitching tool?? I don't want to lose the steels temper.. all m other awls are to small, I think?? From watching your video here.. sorry for such long text. Hope your making some more video!! Lol. Have a Blessed Day and Thank You

I think you can make a buckstitch awl out of a screwdriver that will work fine. The buck stitch awl I use is very old. Have a good week!
@Terry-n1iАй бұрын
@cheaneysaddles , I'll try that!! Thanks!! I just ordered a handmade awl, and a curved/ inseam type awl for stitching bags, hard to get areas.. very nice tools, [ from Ukraine].. also, I was able to order new , #153 leather punch, with--00 thru 7, punch tubes.. excited bout that... not very often this 59 yr old gets excited about something!! Lol.. also purchased the Osborne # 1000 lace cutter, for cutting lace from kangaroo.. maybe it'll work!! Black Friday deals definitely helped.. Thanks to your tutorials, I think now I'm on my way to having few good tools.. just need good stitching groover now.. lol. Always something.. have great week, and thanks for replying!!

Good stuff, as usual. Looking at it and hearing you talk about the buckle brings to mind a couple of questions: Are you just doing this on the belt for decoration, or is the belt lined? And if you were to line a belt for some reason, would you trust a buckstitch and glue, or would you prefer either a running or a saddle stitch? Thank you, sir.
@cheaneysaddles6 жыл бұрын
This is just for decoration on a plain veg-Tan leather. You can line the belt and just buckstitch a lining in it and it will work just fine.

Splicing the lace 🤷🏾♀️?
@cheaneysaddles Жыл бұрын
Yes it's common and fairly easy to do....

I have good luck with using a lighter to dry out and harden the tip of my lace to keep it from getting fuzzy and floppy. Just a second or so of indirect heat
