I took all evening making these tools from pictures , then the fun started. My first row looked like the kindergarten class had gotten a hold of the leather. My arch with the sun rays looked ok but it took some filing on the edging tool. Now after several hours of waisting leather I have a better looking ribbon , but I need to start over on the bevel tool. I kept filing it to get the rite shape and it is close but is now too little. It's a real learning process when you have never tooled leather and starting off with tools made only from pictures. You sir make this look too easy. It's amazing at how you glide with the bevel tool and strike each one at the perfect spot each time. If you could, maybe show your tool placements better like show exactly how you hold and position each tool. I froze the scream and studied the finished ribbon to understand how you were holding the tool. I hope to learn many more techniques from you in the future. 👍👍👍👍👍

Great Tutorial Bob. Thanks so much. I was trying this on some round coasters the other night and found that the inner row of stamping does not mach with the outside row. The result was an inconsistent thickness of the ribbon. Thankfully I tested on scrap first. Is there a way to resolve the problem?
@TheNoobstalker7 жыл бұрын
You might want to use a smaller camo tool on the inside (as the circle is smaller) it may take some messing around but once you find the right size it should line up every time. that is all I can think of anyway :)

Thanks Bob. I will certainly try that.

Hi Bob..great tutorial, thanks. By the way, what cut/finish of veg tan leather is that? I ask because I like the grain in it. The surface of the 2.5mm veg tan I am using is too smooth for what I want...but yours looks ideal - Like this guy uses Stateside to make amazing sheathes - check him out; www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/568981-Some-tips-and-thoughts-on-folder-sheaths Hope you can advise as you appear to use the same cut/finish of leather Cheers Pete

How far apart do you make your lines, it looks like about 1/8 inch.
@boothillcustomleather86527 жыл бұрын
E Wayne 1/8" is ok. You can make is wider or narrower, or just one line. Play with it and you'll see.
@MountainFisher5 жыл бұрын
@@boothillcustomleather8652 One line doesn't look right after you hit it with the beveler, only a small camo tool works with one line, just FYI.
