Thank you 😊 I got the aluminium ones 15 years ago and the guy is no longer making them, you can get similar wooden ones from Abbey England though 👍

Hi Jo, I wonder if you can help? I made a martingale collar and a multipoint lead for my German Shepherd. I used 4mm bridle leather bought from Metropolitan Leather and it went together beautifully however, now that its been in use for a couple of months, the flesh side is starting to feel very rough compared to the top side. What would you say was the best finish to use on the flesh side of a lead given that in daily use it is stretched and flexed so much. Is there a good way to make sure this kind of use doesn't result in the leather going rough like this? Is there a good way to restore it? Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks. 🙂

Since she havent answered i'l give my two cents of a beginner. Polishing the surface with wood or bone stick most like will restore the surface, how ever sounds to me that issue is stretching of the material no the finish it self. I would consider for larger breeds like Shepherds adding reinforcement fabric behind the leather or making it from two peaces stich together fabric between. Sure its more work but long as stiches hold, leather can give out and there is still the fabric below as reinforcement and nothing should get between the materials if its maintained as it should. For my items i have used bees wax and then applied coat of saddle grease to soak trough any gaps vax left, where water and dirt could go, but those have been few knife sheets that havent been field tested to see how it holds on so take this with boat load of salt.
