That round knife!! Holy cow, that thing is seriously scary! Asking for a friend,... where can I get one? Enjoyed the safety warnings.😀

Yes! Videos on the simple tasks to show us the tips on how to do it right! I love it! I was having problems with cutting out a pattern and now I have a bit more confidence (and knowledge) to have a go at it again!

I really, really, really don't need another craft hobby. That said, I want some leather goods for the cosplay I'm planning and I suspect I will be making those things as it's difficult to get stuff when you're not a standard size. This tutorial is so helpful so thank you for making it.

Lol glad that you're enjoying it! And I maintain that not cutting your fingers off is a vital step in cutting leather

I loved the different names for fingers! That round knife looks like no joke, and it feels somehow wrong to push a knife instead of pull, but it's definitely something to think about later.

Thanks lol I tried to keep it a bit fresh! I can also confirm that the round knife is a serious business knife haha

Good stuff! I avoided learning to sharpen for so long, and it seemed obvious that a modern replaceable razor must always be sharper than an old hunk of metal that I'd tried to sharpen. I had to switch though because stanley knives are so so wobbly! Scalpel type razors are stiffer but hard to apply force to. The clean, perpendicular cut is everything and although you can re-cut or sand the edge before polishing, if you're making any kind of butted or edge seam, you need a clean cut on your seamline, first try.

Thanks for the kind words! I definitely agree with you, I put off trying round knives for probably too long, but I get so much joy out of using them now, I go looking for excuses to use them

Ha ha love the safety scolding. Does it feel like you need more hand strength for the round knife or does your arm do a lot of the work?
@Cxizent
@Cxizent 3 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting question, and not something I've thought about! Generally I try to keep my hand fairly steady so most of the pressure comes from my arm, I'd suppose? It's something that takes a bit of getting used to, but now I genuinely look forwards to being able to use them!

So, what if your leather is likely not vedge tan? Do all these steps still apply? Can I still safely dampen the leather? And what if I wanna poke out some holes in it? Should I also dampen the leather before puncturing it? (You might have guessed by now, but yes I am a total leather noob just working on my first project, some leather belts)
@Cxizent

If your leather is Chrome tan, or another "finished" leather, you don't need to dampen it prior to cutting or punching holes! It'll be Chrome tan if it's quite thin and supple, like a leather jacket. Hope this helps!

@@Cxizent Thank you for the quick reply, it does help! My leather seems to have a glossy finish on both sides, so now I know I don't have to bother with dampening it. Ps: It might be an interesting video idea to go over different types of leather and how and when to use them.

Where do you source your leather?
@Cxizent

Mostly from a tannery in Sydney called Birdsall, but this particular hide came from one in Victoria called Lefflers
