Love both but leather is so classy it feels good and will last for ages and the joy of oiling it .. nothing beats a leather agitation harness or a thick leather leash with a bull snap but biothane is great too apples and oranges

Personally whenever I work with leather leashes and strong dogs the leather is kinda stretchy compared to the biothane. I like the biothane better. I also live in a wet humid enviroment, and I feel like biothane is easier to clean and keep clean vs leather needing oiled. But you are right that time will tell, none of my biothane has flaked or cracked, but we'll see

I agree with you as biothane is much better, durability and performance. To me it’s also vegan, no animals get NOT be abuse and kill for no reason.

Leather leashes snapping is exactly why I'm trying biothane, yes a dog can snap a leather leash if it is pulling hard enough.

I love leather.....jackets. Just kidding:). Great video Ed!. This is Scott from Biothane. I do agree both leather and Biothane have their places. Leerburg makes great leather and Biothane products. You can't go wrong with Leerburg products whichever way you choose. I would add that Biothane has different coatings, some that are better for different applications. For abrasive situations, our Granite(Dull) or Diamond(Shiny) coatings can probably outlast anything. Our Beta coating(shown in the video) has great feel and is extremely popular for leashes and tack. And to everyone else, Genuine Biothane is proudly made in the USA by skilled American workers and shipped all over the world!

BioThane is a plastic material that won't biodegrade when it's disposed of, so that's another thing to consider if you're choosing it over leather for moral reasons.

Make a biothane leash with 2-3 knots on it. 1 a ft out from the leash hook (to quickly grab the dog close) another 3 ft out on a 6 ft lead. Then everyone will stop knotting their leashes and you will have an innovative product. Every leash I get I have to put “my knots” to quickly grab my dog bc he’s a strong Doberman. If you made a leash with pre gripped knotted points you’d watch it sell out.

Take your dog to positive reinforcement classes and train him how to heel. A dog should never walk in front of you or pull, it is dangerous for them. Especially during walks in a park or in the woods. Another dog or animal can easily run up and attack your dog, you won't be able to stop them from hurting your precious baby because you won't be next to your dog to fight off the other animal. If the dog is heeling, you will be able to fight off another animal and keep your dog safe. I have a service dog and I trained him the "cover" command, "cover" is when a dog stands behind you. Every time I see an aggressive, barking pet in public (which is illegal), I tell him to "cover" so I can protect him. I also taught him "side" which means to heel on the right side. If another dog gets too close to us, I'll make him heel on the opposite side. I don't mind getting attacked because I have free healthcare and I will be able to recover easily. If my dog gets attacked, I'll have to pay a lot of money at the vet, and there is a chance that he might not make it or be able to work again. As a dog owner, your dogs safety should ALWAYS come before your own. Our dogs are our children, it's our responsibility to train them and keep them safe. A trained dog is a happy and safe dog.

As an equestrian, I cannot get over the mental hurdle of synthetic stirrup leathers. Yes, I'm sure that they are stronger and probably even safer. But you say that leather lasts longer. Plus it is renewable. So I will stick with leather. Very nice video thought, fun to see then tensile strength of each material.

I'd rather use biothane, it's cheaper and you don't have to worry about using leather conditioner. I have a service dog and we use a biothane leash everywhere we go, I've had it for almost 5 years, and it is still in top condition. It has been in water, in mud, in sand, in dirt and dragged around on the floor often. The colour hasn't changed and it isn't cracking at all, it looks new. I used a leather leash with my first service dog, but I stopped after a year. The leash started ripping and cracking, it looked horrible, it faded, it was stained and worn, the leash was more expensive than my biothane leash, plus, no animals have to die in the process. Biothane will always be my favorite.

@Graeme7584 жыл бұрын
Might be better sticking to the real properties of leather and Biothane, rather than making stuff up (Like 'Leather will last a lot longer than biothane in wet and cold climates') just because you, like many of us, prefer leather for many reasons. None of which relate to ease of maintenance or durability. But if you plan top use your leash at temps below about minus 50F you may find your Biothane gets a little stiff. Your leather on the other hand. Er, that will also be a little stiff too, especially if you let it get wet. Most of us will never encounter temps below 50F, at least, we don't go out in it. Those who do are very unlikely to use leather over modern materials for their equipment, except maybe a few traditionalist sled teams. Leather undoubtedly looks better, feels better, ages beautifully and will last, possibly, a life time if looked after. Biothane is stronger for the same dimensions, looks good, but in a different way, personally I don't think it has the 'class' of well made leather goods. Neglect leather, as many do, and it will fail quickly. I'm not sure you can neglect Biothane, it requires no maintenance. What you can see in the video is that both leather and Biothane snapped at the stitch line. Stitching may not the the best way to fix Biothane if you're looking for ultimate strength.
@mobstercrow751510 ай бұрын
Biothane doesn't fade either, and you don't have to worry about it getting wet or muddy, you don't have to polish it or use conditioner either. I love biothane so much because of the range of colours too. I hope they will start making biothane fabric, I'd love to make a backpack for my dog out of it.
