Leathercraft patterns leather stamping tutorial modified Craftool stamp. Serpentine leather stamps make unique patterns for your custom leather craft projects. The piece I am putting this serpentine design on is a flank strap for a custom saddle that I am making. The Craftool I am using has been modified so it will fit in a narrow channel.
The marking on this leather stamping tool is CRAFTOOL USA D744400 which is slightly different from some of the others I have seen.

I just purchased some new Craftools for this video review and they look good and you can purchase them from Tandy Leather and use them the way they are and I think you will be happy with the results.
If you want to modify your own serpentine tools here are two numbers you will like the Craftool number D444 and D445.

Love the pattern of the d447. Try a 3/4" wide groove, i prefer the look a bit more and its a little more forgiving with the spacing. Love all your videos

Hi Bruce. I love your videos. I just subscribed to you. I have a question I hope you can answer. how did you make the grooved end? I know how you did the lines but the rounded ends elude me. Thank you.

I am using a Craftool USA tool marked with the number D744400 I modified this tool to suit my needs by reshaping one end of the tool. I recently purchased a new Craftool with the number D444S and it looks very similar to my tool but it needs to be modified by reshaping the end also. Also another factor is the spacing that gives the rounded end effect. Thanks for watching my videos. Bruce

I create textures, designs, seams and more on vegetable cowhide and I use goatskin or handmade raw leather ... raw leather which I then make strips, tientos, of 2 mm 3 mm 4 mm .. .and i want to learn this craft of leather engraving...so i can do great handicrafts...thanks again so much and congratulations. Does the leather need to be damp in order to get deep designs with the tools?
@cheaneysaddles
@cheaneysaddles 3 жыл бұрын
Yes the leather needs to be wet but not to wet just damp through and through. If the leather is to wet when you stamp your design some of the crispness will pull out after the piece dries.

how are you getting such a dark burnish from your tool?
@cheaneysaddles
@cheaneysaddles Жыл бұрын
The leather is fairly thick 13/15 ounce and is vegetable tanned saddle skirting which results the dark stamping.
