Another great job on this review, Ben. But I have to respectfully disagree with some of your criticisms of the T2. The awl/small screwdriver is not only useful for turning small screws and reaming holes, but also for probing, scraping and gouging in tight spaces. Scissors, or even a more rounded awl, in this configuration, wouldn't slide past the screwdrivers correctly. I like that the blades lock and operate with one hand, that it doesn't have (often included but seldom used) tools such as a cork screw or can opener, and that, thanks to the magnets, the blades don't snap shut like mousetraps. And, in my humble opinion, it doesn't need a pocket clip because it fits perfectly in that (otherwise useless) fifth pocket on your Levi's. One change I would make, though, is to put the cross and regular screwdrivers, which I use more often than the awl, on the outsides, as they did on the K2. But, all in all, this is a solidly built minimalist tool that is a lot of fun to play with.

Thank you, thanks for watching too. I can completely see your point of view. The thing with multi tools, both in design and function, it really comes down to the end user. What works for me may not work for you, and visa versa. I'm glad you found it so useful. I am a firm believer that the right tool is out there for everyone. Thanks again for watching.

I don’t own any Leatherman products, but being a knife enthusiast (and becoming a burgeoning multi tool enthusiast thanks to my Swiss Army Knife) I like to look around at what other options are out there. I personally ask myself the same key question any time I’m looking at a tool: “What would I use this for? What is its exact, unique function?” I see the T2 as fitting two overlapping roles. It’s a fully one-handed SAK; and the handle tools provide the additional functions of a knife blade that people sometimes try to get away with. It pries. It drives screws. It drills small holes. Instead of risking ruining your knife blade by trying to use it for one of those tasks, you’ve got a second implement designed specifically for that. I see the T2 (as well as the T4, K2 and K4) as an American-made alternative to a SAK, made for someone who isn’t *quite* looking for a multi tool but who still wants a few extra functions. It would be awesome if Leatherman came out with a “T3” and a “T6” that were modular and allowed you to choose which handle tools you wanted. The tools could be sold individually, or in bundles, like the driver bits.

They should also: 1) be longer! Very hard to take out the knife on the T4 & T2 one handed. 2) all have Plus type tools (i.e. tweezers, toothpick)

I have a Free P4 and I'm surprised as to how handy the AWL has come in. It's great for small screws and light prying on plastics.

Just walked out of my local Lowes with the T2. Agreed as a fail for the price point. I paided $53.48 total. My 1st Leatherman or pocket multitool ever. I really want a Charge TTi but I think the pliers on the Wave+ and Surge are better. I've been EDCing my Ruike M-105 TZ for over a couple months now and I've sometimes needs to use both screwdrivers so the T2 will in my pocket for the rest of December 2022.

I've always loved having a awl on a multi tool. Being a LEATHERman it's kinda expected. For the price, yes, it should have come with a clip. The reason I went with the t2 rather than the t4 was I don't like the scissors and the file seemed pretty useless at that size.
@HellFire1073 жыл бұрын
I don't mind not having a pocket clip as this fits perfectly in the small jeans pocket. My only issue with the T2 is that I find it extremely difficult to open the blade without using two hands.

Agreed. Shoulda been longer!

I agree, scissors! Then, move two tools to the other end and make them overlap so it is much thinner. It’s a bit bulky for EDC.

As of today’s date 21/07/22, buying this Leatherman from Amazon, which I know isn’t the cheapest place, it cost me £59.95. In the UK, there aren’t many stores that carry this tool, or many Leatherman multi tools anyway, so if people like myself want these nice little multi tools, we’re charged nearly double. I do agree with you that they could have put scissors on this platform but to be honest, this is going to be a backup for a larger Leatherman, the Surge in my case, so I’m not too bothered. Great review as always

I 100 percent agree with the pocket clip. It really needs it.

I understand wanting scissors and a larger knife blade, but at what point does it just become a T4? I think the point of this was to trim down the T4. But I agree, it's expensive and if anything I'd trade the awl for some scissors. Not putting a pocket clip on a tool meant for EDC is kind of a slap in the face to the buyer though.

Are you measuring the blade from where its sharp or from the base of the blade?

Blade is measured strictly on the cut length, not to the pivot like some manufacturers like to put out.

Thanks for another great review. It’s the best of the Free range but I’m struggling to justify it over say a Victorinox Alox Pioneer or Farmer. It seems to me that they missed a trick here and made it a TSA tool swapping the knife for substantive scissors and perhaps the awl for a nail file or tweezers. It would’ve then been an ideal travel manicure set.
@FreedomFox13 жыл бұрын
Yea, I wish there were more tsa-friendly tools. Leatherman has a knifeless rebar and the style ps (wish there were a knifeless micra though). Victorinox has a million models, but very few without a knife. The knife on the smallest models is so flimsy, it seems rather pointless anyway. Gideonstactical has a video with a knifeless full-size multitool (the name escapes me).
@pebble8883 жыл бұрын
@@FreedomFox1 completely agree. It feels like somewhat of a blind spot of firms like Leatherman and Victorinox. I am not sure if it’s a technical challenge to swap a knife for something else or if it’s a company philosophy which says that a multi-tool or SAK has to have a knife but it feels like there’s a massive untapped market if they were able to think beyond a knife. I know lots of people who aren’t into multi tools or knives or EDC who would seriously buy a multi tool but are often put off by the knife.
@FreedomFox13 жыл бұрын
@@pebble888 Yes, exactly. I wish there were a victorinox with scissors, nail file and the pry tool-box cutter they have on their “swiss tool.” They used to make loads of sales in airports, so it’s odd that they have ignored this market. As for the leatherman, you’ve got to give them credit for at least giving us locking tools on smaller multi tools (which is uncommon, although SOG did it with their PowerPint). But even these “Free” tools miss the mark (awl without a point?!).
@pebble8883 жыл бұрын

T2 is a fail says all that needs to be said. Useless AWL, should be replaced with scissors. Tweezers should be included. The exclusion of pocket clip demonstrates the lengths LEATHERMAN has gone trying to nickle and dime customers, cutting corners.

I think Leatherman kinda lost it way with the magnetic architecture. Yeah, it's innovative and possibly revolutionary, but Leatherman just hasn't pulled it off with this generation of tools. Certainly not replacements for SAK's..
@simonh63713 жыл бұрын
I don't know why they pretend to have 8 tools on it, there are just 5. To call a small screwdriver an awl is just wrong, awls have a point and a hole, and they claim that their medium screwdriver is 3 tools in 1, calling it a pry tool and retail package opener too. Going by that, almost all of all my SAKs and multitools now have 3 more tools than they did before I read that on Leatherman's website.

Completely agree with what you say here and furthermore, every tool in the free range should have the bit extender tool. Why they done away with it completely is beyond me. Bit tool, scissors and the flat head/box cutter/pry tool with a pocket clip would have made this a perfect EDC knife/pocket tool.....Leatherman Fucked up
