I have owned the Leatherman OHT for maybe 5 or 6+ years. It is without a doubt easy one handed use. The hand in the video demonstrated that in the beginning the way it slides in and out easily yet locks closed if selected. The gerber appeared a bit more sticky when trying to access the pliers. I have flat out abused mine (use as hammer or prybar etc) and it holds up surprisingly well. The saw is great for cutting plastics or woods or small trees. The canvas cases suck and the bottoms tear out within a year so I found a great custom leather one instead. That gerber seems nice too. I dont like the bit accessory remotely stored. Be nice if that could have been tucked into the tool. Id like both! No vocal commentary-It was sign language the entire time. Great review.

OHT all the way for me. I've owned both and the Leatherman has alot of little things that make it much better when used in a commercial, daily-use setting. 1) Super smooth and quick plier mechanism 2)ALL tools accessible from outside (you have no idea how annoying it is to open the Gerber pliers, deploy tool, then close pliers... each time you have to use the saw/knife, etc.) 3)Lightweight

Personally, I found the OHT to be lacking on the tool side, and I found it strange that there’s no bit driver in it, but it is designed for when you need to fix something and you only have one hand at your disposal. When looking at the center drive, I think it was better designed in terms of tool selection and it felt like it would be more needed tools that it includes, but to my own surprise I thought the center drive felt “cheap” on its built quality and materials. Both compared to the OHT but also compared to other leatherman so have

My centerdrive came with a blade that was not fully sharpened, the inserts to the cutter shattered trying to cut a small nail, the awl broke with first use as did the tip of the prybar. The file would not even cut plastic. The serrated edge was not sharp what so ever. I dont own a OHT because I find the toolset to be too limited but it cant be worse :P
I would pack the leatherman oht for camping 🏕 and use the Gerber center drive for home only , if I didn’t go camping . Or take both for camping and home 🏡 use .

Excellent observation. This is a threaded hole. Leatherman reports in his description for the OHT: "# 8-32 CLEANING ROD / BRUSH ADAPTER - Attach firearm cleaning rods and brushes to this threaded male-end tool." Super Tool 300 EOD has two threaded hole of this kind.

Gerber wire cutters fracture, spring is weak - pliers jam up, and driver too fat to fit in many screw recesses. Both great for users wearing heavy gloves but LM will take heavy use indefinitely.
@adamsteger86506 жыл бұрын
Don't point to those replaceable Gerber wirecutters like they're worth a shit. I had an MP600 3 years ago with the exact same carbide cutters. They are fucking brittle and shattered on me when I tried to copy a coworker who had just cut a small nail with his Supertool 300 (my cutters cracked in half on a part of the same nail). Leathermans replaceable cutters are far superior with the 154CM steel. I was so embarassed that day. I bought a Rebar a few weeks later and never looked back. I'm still on my original set of cutters with my Leatherman, btw.
@xlilnetx3 жыл бұрын

@@xlilnetx I used to work at a factory that made gas tanks. The coworker I was talking about cut a small nail to illustrate a point that the Leatherman is better. Still have the same Rebar, btw. It still has the original cutters too. Still in good shape.

@@adamsteger8650 nice i hear good things about the rebar. I have a lot of leathermans i mainly use my surge for work because it’s easy to carry because of the pocket clip u can get for them. Iv been considering getting a center drive.i work at a tire shop and mainly use my multi tool to pull out nails from punctured tires. I like the concept of the fast access to the pilers and I use the screw drivers often too. Then 3rd mainly to save my main blade I use the serrated blade. I like te idea of the spring assisted pilers and the way they lock as to not collapse when u put pressure on them the wrong way. Iv never had the pilers on my surge collapse and close on me. Just on my p2 when I happen to use it to try to pull a nail out
@adamsteger86503 жыл бұрын
@@xlilnetx Yeah, I get the attraction to getting fast deployment pliers. That's why I originally went for the mp600 back then. But that was all it really had going for it. The drivers were all short, which wasn't too big of a deal, but after I got my rebar, I enjoyed the longer shanks on the drivers. Another plus is that I can open up the Leatherman handles and use the screwdrivers like a normal dedicated screwdriver--something I couldn't do with the Gerber I had. The steel is definitely better on the Leatherman too. I've used it in so many ways I shouldn't have, yet it still holds up and is solid. I work patrol security now and about 2 weeks ago, I locked myself out of my patrol car (ex police Crown Vic). I had to wait for my supervisor to come out with a lockout kit, which the airbag in the lockout kit wouldn't open the door enough to slip the rod into. Took out my rebar, jam the pliers into the door and pull hard as hell. The door opens enough and I have to stand there for 5 minutes pulling on my pliers like a short crowbar, until my supervisor finally hits the unlock button with the rod. Lol my patrol car got a few scratches but the rebar was fine.
